PM Modi promises 'New Kashmir' to Kashmiri
Pandits in US as Valley remains muzzled
PM Narendra Modi claimed that “winds of change”
were blowing in Kashmir as he met with a 17-member delegation of Kashmiri
Pandits in Houston and promised them a new Kashmir. This comes even as it is
close to two months since the Valley has been under lockdown, political leaders
of the state are under house arrest and Kashmiri news from Kashmir continues to
be muzzled. “Kashmir mein naee hava bah rahee hai (New winds are blowing in
Kashmir) and we will all build a new Kashmir together that will be for
everyone,” Modi told delegation even as Kashmiris continue to be calculatedly
kept out of the narrative of the state being portrayed by the Govt. PTI
reported that the Kashmiri Pandit diaspora has supported the Modi Govt and have
hoped that they can return to their homeland. “Modi Ji brought smiles to the
faces of our Kashmiri Pandit delegation, by promising a new Kashmir that we
will build together, for everyone,” Rajiv Pandit, who was part of the
delegation, told PTI. Surinder Kaul, who
led the delegation, told PTI, “PM told us you have suffered a lot and together we
have to build a new Kashmir.” Lalit Kaul, from Boston, said, “It was gracious
of PM Modi to meet us and acknowledge that our community has suffered a lot!
His assurance that he is on the job and things will improve gave all of us a
renewed hope.”Another Kashmiri Pandit delegate from New Jersey, Rakesh Kaul
said that meeting Modi during was important to give him (Modi) unequivocal
support at the global level for revoking Article 370.However, reports from
Kashmir paint quite a different picture.Huffpost India had earlier reported
that Kashmiris are pushing back against the Modi Govt’s narrative that
everything was absolutely normal in Kashmir. Hayat Ahmed Butt, the Srinagar
district president of J&K Muslim League, said, “Indian Govt is talking
about development, but we don’t care even if they put gold on the streets of
Kashmir,” he said. “We want azadi.”“It’s not just the men, but women, children
and the elderly are coming out and marching in the protests,” Butt said. PM
also met a delegation of Dawoodi Bohra community. Members of Sikh community too
met Modi.huffingtonpost/ PTI

Trump to share stage with two world leaders in
pair of battleground events
'Howdy Modi!': Indian PM's supporters, critics to
gather in Texas: Aljazeera
Tens of thousands of people are expected to
gather in Houston, Texas, on Sunday to hear Indian PM Narendra Modi and US
President Donald Trump address a rally dubbed "Howdy Modi".Organisers
say more than 50,000 people - many from the Indian-American diaspora - have
registered for the event, which the White House labelled "a great
opportunity to emphasise the strong ties between the two countries" and
"reaffirm the strategic partnership between the world's oldest and largest
democracies".The rally, hosted by the Texas Indian Forum, is set to kick
off around 8:45am local time with cultural performances before Modi and Trump
take the stage at NRG Stadium around 10:00am."There is unprecedented
synergy between our region and the aspirations of a 'New India' that PM
Narendra Modi represents. American dream shares many similarities with emerging
Indian dream, and an event of this scale suggests an opportunity to build
bridges across 2 great democracies," Jugal Malani, the event's chair, said
in a statement announcing the event. But human rights organisations are also
expected to draw more than 15,000 people to counter-rallies outside the
stadium, aiming to raise awareness of the alleged human rights violations in
Kashmir, as well as other parts of India, including Assam state."Most of
us try to defend human rights violations no matter where they happen,"
said Mohammed Nasrullah, of International Humanitarian Foundation, one of main
organisers of the protests."It's extremely important for us to raise our
voices whenever there are any civil rights violations or human rights
violations or any atrocities against minorities or the oppressed," he said.
Sunita Viswanath, cofounder of Hindus for Human Rights, urged other Hindus to
"wake up, and find out what's going on" in India."Hindus in the
world, Hindus in America are not awake to the horrors taking place," she
told Al Jazeera. "I do not believe that most of the Hindus that are
supporting Modi really, truly, understand the extent to which the [Hindu
nationalist] forces are aligned with fascism."Viswanath, whose
organisation is part of Alliance for Justice and Accountability, which consists
of Hindu, Muslim, Dalit, Sikh and Christian groups, said the protest was not
just against Modi, but also Trump."Both are nationalist, both suppress
minorities in their countries, both seem to have no regard for law and order
process. Both seem to be absolutely destroying the fabric of very important
democracies in the world," she said.Gurpatwant Pannun, who is the legal
adviser of the Sikhs for Justice group, warned US politicians against fostering
close relationships with Modi Govt."I really want to let US lawmakers know
that this is a time that they should not trade the economic benefits with the
blood of the minorities," he said before Sunday's event.

UP too hot for Kashmiri inmates, seek transfer to

Lucknow: Suffering from depression and unable to
bear the hot and sultry weather in the plains, a large number of Kashmiri
prisoners lodged in jails in UP have sought a transfer back to their state.A

weather in UP does not suit them. They have lost their appetite and are
suffering from depression." Kashmiri prisoners have also complained of
abdominal pain and were made to undergo ultrasound tests before receiving treatment
from the doctors. Some of these prisoners, mostly accused of being
pro-independence protesters or termed "potential stone-throwers",
have underlined they faced no prior police cases in their state and should
therefore not be considered habitual troublemakers.A total of 285 prisoners

Bareilly and Ambedkar Nagar after the revocation of J&K''s special status
on Aug.6.Currently, an advisory board formed by J&K High Court is hearing

Sarvodaya Enclave with a bagful of Hindi and English pamphlets.71-year-old

and Jubilation in Rest of India Test Our Soul”.He walked for around 5km,
handing his pamphlets to passers-by near Hauz Khas Metro station, on the leafy
sidewalks of August Kranti Marg, and outside the Kamala Nehru and Gargi
Colleges. A short way from Moolchand Flyover, a car pulled up beside him and
the driver asked for a pamphlet. Before Tripathi could respond, the man
snatched a bunch of 150 pamphlets from his hand. “He shouted at me, ‘Are you a
Pakistani? You are committing treason! If you were not an old man I would have
hit you hard’. I replied, ‘You can do that right now if you want, but tell me
what your problem is. What is wrong with my pamphlet?’”Tripathi said. “A few
policemen arrived and tried to calm the situation. The man asked them to arrest
me. I said I want to bring understanding between the people of Kashmir and the
rest of India. People in one state are uneasy, and those in other states are
rejoicing. Pamphlet promotes national unity.”Tripathi has been writing
pamphlets for 27 years and has travelled as far as Assam, MP,Chhattisgarh,
Rajasthan and Haryana to distribute them, often meeting with abuse. But this
was the first time he had pamphlets snatched from him and was threatened with

'No power in world can protect Pak from getting

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today criticised
Pakistan for its human rights violations against certain communities and
claimed that if the current trend continues "no power in the world will be
able to protect Pak from getting further divided into pieces." "If
they (Pak) repeat it, then they should think what will become of PoK...Human
rights violations are committed against Balochs&Pashtuns there. If it

Pakistan of waging a war-like situation with India by reminding Pakistan that
they "should not commit 'the mistake of repeating 1965 and 1971.""You
can see they're already getting discouraged. Pak PM comes to PoK and says
'countrymen don't go to India-Pak border'. I said it's good because if they do,
they'll not be able to go back to Pakistan. They should not commit the mistake
of repeating 1965 and 1971," he said.He also cited that Article 370 and
Article 35A were the major reasons for terrorism in Valley and chastised Pakistan
for enabling terror activities in the valley.Further, minister said Article 370

New Delhi: Blaming India’s first PM Jawaharlal
Nehru for allegedly allowing to Pakistan to occupy parts of Kashmir, Union Home

into existence had Nehru not declared ceasefire with the neighbouring country.
He also said the country’s first home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel should
have been allowed to handle Kashmir issue instead of Nehru. Targeting Nehru
over “non-integration” of Kashmir with India, Shah said:“PoK wouldn’t have come
into existence had Nehru not declared untimely ceasefire with Pakistan. Article
370 was the reason why every Indian had to say and prove that Kashmir was an
integral part of the nation. It was a barrier in the unity of India and the

BJP raising Art.370 to divert attention from
'monumental failures' in Jharkhand: JMM leader
New Delhi: BJP is raising the issue of abrogation
of Article 370 provisions in the run up to the Jharkhand Assembly polls as a
"ploy" to divert people's attention from "monumental
failures" of Raghubar Das Govt, JMM working president Hemant Soren alleged
on Sunday. The former Jharkhand CM's sharp attack comes days after PM Narendra
Modi and BJP head Amit Shah referred to Article 370 abrogation while listing achievements
of NDA Govt 2.0 in their public addresses in poll-bound state. Soren said Jharkhand
Mukti Morcha (JMM) will raise people's issues in the campaign and promised that
if voted to power, his Govt will ensure 75% reservation for youth of Jharkhand
in private jobs. He said if JMM forms Govt, it will ensure 5 lakh jobs within 1
year, unemployment allowance to those who are jobless, reserve Govt tender up
to Rs 25 crore for people from the state, implement 50% reservation for women in
jobs and 27% quota for OBCs.Asked about BJP aggressively raising the abrogation
of Article 370 in J&K and the nationalistic fervour around it, Soren said a
Govt which fails to address economic and social crises and key issues that
affect everyday lives of citizens, resorts to "creating sharp polarisation

NRC-excluded gurkhas not to approach Foreigners’
Tribunals
Guwahati:Gurkhas excluded from Assam’s updated
NRC will not go to Foreigners’ Tribunals to prove their citizenship, an
umbrella organisation of the community said today.Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha
(BGP), representing 10.5 million members of the community across India,
justified its stand saying the Govt had no right to try Indians in such
tribunals meant for foreigners.“Gurkhas of Assam will not go to Foreigners’ Tribunals
to prove their citizenship, as being tried in such tribunals is an insult to
their identity as Indians. We can file defamation cases against the system of
challenging the citizenship of gurkhas and Nepali-speaking people,”
organisation’s president Sukhman Moktan said.Based on data provided by its
local units across the 33 districts of Assam, BGP said more than 1 lakh gurkhas
had been excluded from the final NRC. Moktan said BGP leaders had been touring
Assam to meet the NRC victims and those marked D or doubtful voters and their
descendants. “NRC guidelines say the gurkhas whose citizenship has been
challenged need to go to the Foreigners’ Tribunals despite a notification of
exemption by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). This is an attempt of a few vested
interests within the system to disrespect Indian gorkhas who are actually
original inhabitants as is proved by our historically and mythologically
recorded presence since centuries,” Moktan said.thehindu

‘By 2047, Sangh would become indistinguishable
from Indian society’
New Delhi:“What will be the state of our nation
in 2047 (centenary of Independence)? After deliberating with RSS functionaries,
the common answer I could gather was that India… Sangh would become
indistinguishable from Indian society. Sangh would become coterminous with all
of Indian society and the need for it to exist as a distinct entity would be
obviated.”This is what RSS pracharak Sunil Ambekar writes in his forthcoming
book “RSS Roadmap for the 21st Century”.The book, to be released on Oct.1 by
RSS sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat in Delhi, throws light on several issues
pertaining to RSS.In the book, Ambekar —Sangathan Mantri of ABVP, an RSS
affiliate working among students — advocates the Ram temple in Ayodhya, uniform
civil code and constitutional amendment. “Constitutions are not frozen in time;
they are dynamic texts. Uniform Civil Code is not only necessity for Ekatmata,
but also a preventive against the exploitation that Muslim women have had to
endure due to their religious laws,” it says. While the book was being released
for printing, the Govt decided to scrap special status of J&K and bifurcate
the state. In the chapter “The History of Bharat”, Ambekar narrates the RSS’s
efforts to revise history and calls renaming of cities like Faizabad to Ayodhya
and Allahabad to Prayagraj as “an important part of the reclamation (of
History) project”. He also demands that Aurangabad in Maharashtra “be renamed
as Sambhajinagar”.indian Sexpress

RSS is dividing the country: AAP leaders during

cheques of Rs 14,000 to imams and Rs 12,000 to Moazims.During his speech, Khan
also minced no words to attack RSS. He pointed out that AAP is looking at ways

name of religion, caste, and cow. It is only in India where 85 % of the
population has been forced to go against the 14 % and 14 % of Muslim are now
living in fear and have been voting for BJP and they have to realise what is
better for them," he added.Sanjay Singh also reiterated the same, pointed
out the injustice happening in the case of Pehlu Khan, Aqhlaq and Tabrez."Today
the BJP talks about Hinduism and in the name of it, they are busy making people
fight over temples and making brothers fight. The BJP is waiting to pounce on
any comments made by any Muslim leader, Especially Amanatullah Khan or

Security forces in Egypt have clashed with hundreds
of protesters in the port city of Suez, according to media reports, firing tear
gas and live rounds to disperse crowds calling for President Abdel Fattah
el-Sisi to quit. The unrest on Saturday came a day after thousands of people
took to the streets in several Egyptian cities in a rare show of dissent
against el-Sisi, who has overseen a broad crackdown on dissent including the
jailing of thousands of dissidents and the effective banning of protests.A

armoured vehicles."They [security force] fired tear gas, rubber and live

Crackdown on Islam is spreading across China:NYT
In China’s northwest, the Govt is stripping the
most overt expressions of the Islamic faith from a picturesque valley where most
residents are devout Muslims. Authorities have destroyed domes and minarets on
mosques, including one in a small village near Linxia, a city known as “Little
Mecca.”Similar demolitions have been carried out in Inner Mongolia, Henan and
Ningxia, the homeland of China’s largest Muslim ethnic minority, the Hui. In
the southern province of Yunnan, three mosques were closed. From Beijing to
Ningxia, officials have banned the public use of Arabic script. This campaign
represents the newest front in the Chinese Communist Party’s sweeping rollback
of individual religious freedoms, after decades of relative openness that
allowed more moderate forms of Islam to blossom. Harsh crackdown on Muslims
that began with Uighurs in Xinjiang is spreading to more regions and more
groups. It is driven by the party’s fear that adherence to the Muslim faith
could turn into religious extremism and open defiance of its rule. Across
China, the party is now imposing new restrictions on Islamic customs and
practices, in line with a confidential party directive, parts of which have
been seen by New York Times. The measures reflect the hard-line policies of
China’s leader, Xi Jinping, who has sought to reassert the primacy of the
Communist Party and its ideology in all walks of life. The campaign has
prompted concerns that the repression of Uighur Muslims in the western region
of Xinjiang has begun to bleed into other parts of China, targeting Hui and
other Muslims who have been better integrated than Uighurs into Chinese society.
