Muslim, Christian, dalit
organizations stage protest demanding ban on cow vigilantism
New Delhi:Several Muslim,
Christian and dalit organizations on Friday staged a protest at the Jantar
Mantar here, demanding a ban on "cow vigilantism" and sought passage
of the Communal Violence Bill. The protesters also submitted a memorandum to
President Pranab Mukherjee, urging him to play his role in defending the

persecuted" allegedly under the NDA govt at the Centre. "We demand the cow
vigilantism be banned and people be allowed to eat the food of their
choice," All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat president Navaid Hamid said.
"A commission should be formed to report whether the recent events are
part of organised crimes orchestrated by parties to polarize votes for

lives and properties and displacement of people from their cozy homes,"Jamat-e-Islami
Hind vice-president Nusrat Ali said. Maulana Abdul Hameed, General Secretary of
Jamiatul Ulama Hind, demanded that judicial inquiry be initiated in major cases

should be made a law as soon as possible so that communal forces should be
suitably dealt with for maintaining peace and law and order in the
country," he said. The protesters also demanded that due compensation
should be paid by govts concerned to the victims and their families and a
standard method be evolved for equal compensation to people across the

Ahmedabad: Members of the

Minority commission demands
govt’s ‘strong’ message against cow vigilantism
New Delhi:With atrocities
in the garb of cow vigilantism on the rise, the country’s watchdog for minority
protection has cautioned the govt about
its communal fallout and asked it to issue a “strong” statement against such
“outlandish behaviour”. “We believe that there is a need for a very strong
statement from the highest levels of the govt, stating that such outlandish
behaviour will neither be tolerated nor can it go unpunished and that the
secular credentials of India will be protected by the State at all costs,”
National Commission for Minorities (NCM) chairperson Naseem Ahmad wrote in a
letter to home minister Rajnath Singh. The panel reminded the govt that even as law and order is a state subject,
“the central govt would be well within
its powers to ask the states to handle such situations with a heavy hand and to

Concerned over the

“appalled” to find as many as 97 women and 13 children — caught on suspicion of
being Bangladeshis or Myanmarese — lodged with regular criminals in the
Kokrajhar district jail in “total disregard of the rules”.Generally, such
people are kept in detention centres, but according to local officials, there
is no facility in Kokrajhar and so the women and children have been put in a
regular jail with hardened criminals. In all, close to 600 people have been
detained in Assam on suspicion of being Bangladeshis or Myanmar nationals,
according to Khan. Overwhelming majority of such detainees are Muslims.“During
my visit, the issue of activity of the Foreigners Tribunals and the process of
identifying illegal migrants on the basis of doubtful voters was repeatedly

neighbour exported terrorists there.Addressing BJP national conclave in

Uri attack could be a

Pakistan “without any evidence.”“Uri attack can be the reaction of the
atrocities in Kashmir, as the close relatives and near and dear ones of those

told reporters in London. PM said India had hastily blamed Pakistan without any

saying by Pakistani media reports. “The whole world knows about the Indian
atrocities in Kashmir where around 108 people have so far been killed, over 150

New Delhi: In the wake of
the Uri attack, Israel on Friday reiterated its offer of experience and
expertise to secure India’s borders.“Home Minister (Rajnath Singh) visited

different units and forces,” he said. “When the minister came back and assessed
the situation, I am sure he took some of the ideas he saw (into

management and that Israel has solutions for these, adding that the 2 countries
can work together taking into account the capabilities of Israeli companies and
govt and adapting them to Indian needs. Stating that Israel has the cyber
technology experience of securing borders, Ram Dor, ex Israeli Defence Forces

did his best to highlight the Kashmir issue, but the Uri attack affected his
campaign, a media report said.Sharif on Friday left New York after 5 days of
extensive lobbying for Kashmir at the UN and in bilateral meetings with world
leaders. Despite Sharif's striving to highlight the Kashmir cause, the effect
was not as much as it would have been, due to the Sept.18 attack on an Indian
army base in Uri, Dawn reported. Before the attack, prominent newspapers and TV
channels in the US did a series of reports and articles on Kashmir, focusing on
the current unrest and the deaths in clashes with security forces that have
left nearly 90 dead and hundreds injured. After the Uri attack, however, the
focus shifted to militancy and a possible nuclear conflict in the region.IANS
Water weapon cuts both ways
- China factor in Indus card: Telegraph India
China is quietly signalling
India that any abrogation of the Indus Waters Treaty to punish its all-weather
friend Pakistan will have consequences for this country as well.Beijing's view
is that once the treaty is abrogated, it will be under no obligation to allow
water from the Indus or Sutlej rivers to flow into India. Indus, the largest of
the six rivers covered by the 1960 treaty, originates in China, which has 8% of
the Indus river basin of 1.12 million square kilometres that runs through India
and Pakistan as well. The fountainhead of this river basin lies in China. If
China decides to divert water from the Indus river in the absence of any
international treaty governing the management of this precious resource, India
will be deprived of 36% of the river's entire flow.Add to that Pakistan's share
of 63% entitlement and the nightmare consequence of abrogating the treaty would
be a devastated wasteland in the sub-continent spread far and wide across 3,200
kilometres covered by the river's flow from the Tibetan plateau to Karachi
where the Indus discharges its water into the Arabian Sea.Any Chinese action to
pay back India for punishing Pakistan by using water as a weapon has the
further potential to dry up 27 of this river's tributaries, many of which
sustain India's agrarian and commercial life line. telegraphindia

Triple talaq not in
conformity with Sharia, govt to tell SC
New Delhi: Modi govt has decided
to tell the Supreme Court that the claim that the practice of triple talaq is
in conformity with the Sharia is misplaced because about 20 Islamic countries,
including Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, regulate matrimonial laws.Steering clear
of any mention of a uniform civil code (UCC), the Centre is set to argue that
the plea advanced by the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board - that divorce by
triple talaq is sanctified by the Sharia - is incorrect, and that the practice
is a violation of the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution in a
secular state like India. Centre will articulate its position in an ongoing
case challenging the practice."If regulating matrimonial laws is
acknowledged in Islamic countries and not considered contrary to the Sharia,
how can this be treated as such in a secular country like India where
fundamental rights are protected under Constitution?" a top govt source
said.By side-stepping any reference to the UCC, the govt hopes to counter any
allegation that it is seeking to "impose" personal laws on the
minorities. Govt has referred the UCC issue to the Law Commission of India
which will hold wide consultations, including discussions with various personal
law boards and other stakeholders.TOI

Doomsday in Aleppo: 56
killed today, 2mn without water
http://www.worldbulletin.net/todays-news/177735/doomsday-in-aleppo-56-killed-today-2mn-without-water
56 people were killed today
with a total death toll of four days of attacks standing at 323, with figures
set to rise and 220 injured Saturday by Assad regime and Russian airstrikes on
residential areas in opposition-held parts of Syria’s northwestern city of
Aleppo, a civil defense official said. Speaking to Anadolu, Najib Ansari said
that warplanes targeted the districts of Bustan al-Qasr, Mashhad, al-Kallasa,
Salihiya, and al-Fardos, all currently under siege by the Bashar al-Assad
regime. The casualties include women and children. Death toll is expected to
rise due to limited capacity to rescue victims trapped under collapsed
buildings. On Friday, 86 people were killed by regime and Russian warplanes.
Aleppo has been recently suffered from intense attacks by regime and Russian
forces. Since Sept.19, at least 323 civilians have been killed and 1,334
injured by Assad regime and Russian airstrikes on Aleppo, according to civil
defense officials and medical sources in the city. One attack, on a town west of
Aleppo city called Bashqateen, killed 15 members of a family who had been
sheltering in a residential building housing internally displaced people,
activists said.As the bombing entered a second day, 3 medical facilities and
two centres belonging to the White Helmets, a volunteer rescue group, were hit
in airstrikes that disabled some of their vehicles, cut off roads in the city
and left victims trapped in collapsed buildings. The White Helmets said more
than 40 buildings were destroyed. The new govt attacks have come as the U.N. said that nearly
2 million people in Aleppo, Syria's largest city and onetime commercial center,
are without running water following the escalation of the fighting in recent
days after the truce collapse.World Bulletin

US sent weapons to Kurdish
fighters in Syria: Erdogan
Istanbul:Turkish President
Tayyip Erdogan accused the United States of supplying more weapons to Kurdish
fighters in northern Syria this week, delivering two plane loads of arms to
what Ankara says is a terrorist group.Erdogan’s comments, in a speech in New
York, are likely to add to tensions between Turkey and Washington over US
support for Kurdish YPG forces involved in operations against Islamic State
fighters. Turkey is part of the US-led coalition against Islamic State but
views the Syrian Kurdish YPG and its PYD political wing as an extension of
Kurdish militants who have waged a three-decade insurgency on its own soil.“3
days ago America dropped two plane loads of weapons in Kobani for these terror
groups,” he said, adding he had raised the issue on Wednesday with US Vice
President Joe Biden who he said had no knowledge of this.US, which sees the YPG
as a major strategic partner in the fight against Islamic State in Syria,
air-dropped weapons to the group in the largely Kurdish town of Kobani in 2014.

Jordan's Muslim Brotherhood
gain foothold in parliament after long absence
Amman: Jordan's Muslim
Brotherhood has gained a foothold in parliament after ending a decade-long
boycott and returning to the fray as the mainstay of a broad civic alliance,
according to preliminary results released on Thursday. Islamists, easily
Jordan's biggest organised political grouping, had shunned previous polls in
protest at a system that skews representation towards thinly populated rural
areas dominated by tribal politics, rather than the cities, where the
Brotherhood is strong. But under pressure from a govt crackdown that followed
Islamist-led protests in the wake of the Arab Spring, the Brotherhood's
political arm, Islamic Action Front (IAF), ditched its "Islam is the
Solution" slogan and joined Christians and prominent national figures to
create the National Coalition for Reform (NCR).Preliminary results indicated
that the NCR had won at least 16 of 130 seats. Zaki Bani Rusheid, a prominent
Brotherhood leader, said the NCR would seek alliances with others to try to
form an effective opposition. reuters
