Cracks in Naga People’s Front as Manipur unit
defies diktat to pull out of BJP-led govt
Guwahati: Cracks are appearing in the Naga
People’s Front (NPF) with its Manipur unit saying that it has no problems with
BJP-led Manipur Govt and will continue to be a part of it despite NPF president
and ex-CM of Nagaland Shurhozelie Liezietsu’s diktat to withdraw support on
Friday. Manipur unit of NPF has said that it has not received any official
communication from party president. In another clear sign of division in the
party’s ranks, NPF’s Manipur leaders will also take part in Sunday’s North East
Democratic Alliance or NEDA(BJP-led umbrella of regional parties) conclave in
Guwahati even as senior NPF leaders from Nagaland have decided to stay away.BJP
president Amit Shah attended the conclave along with other senior leaders of
regional parties, including Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio, Manipur’s N Biren Singh,
Arunachal CM Pema Khandu, Meghalaya’s CM
Conrad Sangma, Biplab Deb from Tripura.
Sikkim CM Pawan Kumar Chamling didn’t
turn up at the conclave and deputed state’s lone MP Prem Das Ray.“We have read
it in the papers. But there is no official communication,” said Awangbow
Newmai, who heads the NPF in Manipur and is one of the 4 NPF MLAs who have lent
support to the N Biren Singh-led coalition Govt .BJP has 21 seats in the
60–member house, NPF and National People’s Party have four each. LJP and
Trinamool have once each and there is one Independent MLA. Congress is the
largest party with 28 seats. On Friday, Shurhozelie Liezietsu had said that
there was no reason for NPF Manipur to continue with the Govt .The statement
came after former CM and leader of Opposition
TR Zeliang, citing the political drama in Karnataka, came out against the
Nagaland governor and asked why NPF was not allowed to form the Govt even when it emerged as the single largest
party with 26 MLAs. Zeliang is expected to stake claim to form the Govt in Nagaland on Monday. “We are busy with by-polls. But we will
approach the governor on Monday and ask him to invite us to form the Govt since
we are the single largest party,” Sebastian Zumvu, NPF spokesperson said.He
also confirmed that the party president has asked the Manipur MLAs to withdraw
support.HT

times and even sought appointments with him, but he has not yet given a
positive response,” union president Katho P Awomi said at a press conference on

Kathua rape accused’s signatures don’t match
with exam attendance sheet: Lab report
The signature of Vishal Jangotra, an accused
in the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua in January, does not
match the one which he claimed to have signed in an exam attendance sheet in
Meerut to claim he was not at the crime scene, according to a report of
forensic experts. The report by Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL),
detailing this conclusion, has been submitted to the crime branch of J&K police, according to officials in the probe
team. The crime branch, meanwhile, issued notices to all the three friends of
Vishal for appearing before it for questioning tomorrow after the Supreme Court
gave a go ahead on May 17 for their further examination. The officials said the
report has stated that Vishal had not put the signature on the attendance sheet
and it was done by someone else.“Questioner of Examined Documents” (QED), who
is an expert on examination of handwriting samples, opined that the signatures
on the attendance sheet did not match with that of Vishal, son of Sanji Ram,
the alleged mastermind of the murder, the officials said.Police wanted to again
question his three friends -- Sachin, Neeraj and Sahil -- but they had
approached the Supreme court earlier this month alleging harassment by the
crime branch. In its charge sheet, crime branch had mentioned that some
officials of the university had allegedly received “huge amount at kickback
from accused Sanji Ram”.Vishal is among eight people who have been charge
sheeted by the crime branch in the rape and murder of the girl.HT

Ludhianvi:5 Muslims injured in clash as 'mob
attacked them opposing construction of mosque'
Ludhiana: A day after 5 people were injured in
a clash between members of the Muslim and Valmiki communities in Preet Vihar
village here, a contingent of the Rapid Action Force was rushed in to the
locality to quell any kind of violence in the wake of the brawl. The additional
force was sent as Preet Vihar had become tense after the clash had taken a
communal colour. While the police claimed that the clash was the result of an
old enmity, Naib Shahi Imaam Maulana Usman Ludhianvi said a mob attacked about
15 members of Muslim community as they were opposing the construction of a
mosque in the area. “They attacked the Muslims at the time they were offering
Tarawi,” he said.“It was unprovoked and 200 metres from the under-construction
mosque.”Even as the preacher cried foul, Meherban police station SHO Davinder
Kumar said they had registered a case against unidentified persons for the
attack. “Clash was not over the construction of a mosque. The injured persons
received minor injuries; they are fine now,” he said, but admitted to the
mosque’s proximity to scene of the clash. On Friday evening, alleged Ludhianavi,
members of the Muslim community were getting ready for prayers when the mob of
around 20-30 persons from the other community attacked them at Preet Vihar in
Kailash Nagar. He claimed that the attackers were armed with weapons. “They

Issue of Muslims offering prayers being
politicised: CM
Chandigarh: Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar
said the issue of Muslims offering prayers at open places was being
“politicised” by some people.“The matter of offering prayers at open places by
Muslims, which is a social, not political, issue is being politicised by some
people and taken in the wrong direction. No one has the right to hurt religious
sentiments…and such matters can be settled only through peaceful dialogues,” he
said at an event in Chandigarh.Khattar said that population is increasing,
including the number of people belonging to the Muslim community.“With the
number of people offering prayers increasing, the number of places available
for offering prayers has become small,”he said according to a state Govt release. Namaz, jaagran and other forms of
prayers are religious matters and it is “quite okay” to offer prayers at public
places until anyone raises objection, Khattar said, adding when someone
objects, Govt has to take cognizance of it and step forward to maintain law and
order. As far as the ‘Bhagavad Gita’ is concerned, he said it is a way of life
and the Supreme Court has also given judgment that ‘Gita’ is a way of life,
that is, the art of living.People around the world are willing to follow the
‘Gita’, he claimed. Khattar also said that the Gayatri Mantra is a part of
people’s faith and if anyone wanted to recite the mantra, he can. Govt has not
issued any mandatory orders in this regard, he added.PTI

BJP on Saturday claimed that no Hindutva
outfit worth its name has extended its support or participated in the rally
organised by the Shiv Sena on Saturday.“Instead, BJP workers are focusing on
rehabilitation of the affected people and visited many areas to identify such
beleaguered residents instead of indulging in further waste of time. People
particularly in few old city areas have suffered due to the riots for no fault
of theirs. It was a trivial thing that triggered the riots and some people saw
it as opportunity to do politics over it,” Boralkar said. He added that almost
all the Hindutva organizations refrained from being part of the rally dubbed as
‘Hindu Shakti Pradarshan morcha’ by the Sena.“A few religious leaders from
outside the city may have participated in the rally, but most of the locals
turned their back towards the rally that was not at all in the interest of the
city. There were around 5,000 people who responded to the call and most of them
were from outside the city,” Boralkar said. “Shiv Sainiks from outside also
arrived in the city to attend the rally, but participation of locals was also
sizeable. Many Hindutva outfits, including followers of Asaram Bapu,
participated in the morcha,” Sena district unit chief said. TOI

Masjid bomb blast and subsequent police firing and propaganda against Muslims,

Palestinians reject Ramadan meals provided by
UAE
Jerusalemite activists have launched a hashtag
on Twitter – #we are not hungry – as a rejection of Ramadan meals provided by UAE
for visitors to Al-Aqsa Mosque. They argue that Gulf State is consorting with
the Israeli occupation of Palestine, having sent a team to cyclists to
participate in the international Giro d’Italia cycle race which passed through
occupied Jerusalem on 70th anniversary of the Nakba. Palestinian Olympic
Committee has condemned participation of UAE riders in the race.It described
such participation as a precedent of such gravity that it is treason against
the great struggle of the Palestinian people.According to Hebrew-language radio
in Israel, the normalisation of relations between the occupation state and the
UAE is such that Minister of Communications Ayoob Kara has received an official
invitation to visit the Emirates. The Israeli minister added that he is also
expecting Gulf officials to visit Israel soon.middleeastmonitor
