After NDTV India, 2 more
channels ordered to go off air on nove.9:PTI
New Delhi: After NDTV
India, I&B Ministry has ordered a blackout of two more channels over
alleged violations of its rules. 'News Time Assam' a regional channel, has been
to go off air on Nov.9 for multiple violations of programming guidelines.
Ministry has also directed that another 'Careworld TV' be taken off air for
seven days from Nov.9 for allegedly broadcasting objectionable content.
According to a govt order dated Nov.2, News Time Assam is accused of revealing
the identity of a minor who was brutally tortured while working as a domestic
servant. The order said that the visuals telecast by the channel appeared to
compromise the privacy and dignity of the child while also exposing him to harm
and stigma. A showcause notice was issued to the channel in Oct.2013, it
said.Having listened to the channel's version, Inter Ministerial Committee
(IMC), which looked into the matter, said the channel should be taken off air
for a day.The matter was reconsidered as some other channels had also shown
similar content for which they had been issued warnings, but the committee
looked at all the circumstances and again recommended taking it off air for a
day, the order said. The channel has been also accused of showing images of dead
bodies. On another occasion, the committee said the channel also did not comply
with an order to air an apology for telecasting a show which appeared to be
derogatory towards women.Quoting rules under Cable TV Networks (R) Act, it said
that the govt "orders to prohibit the transmission or retransmission of
News Time Assam TV channel for one day on any platform throughout India with
effect from 00:01 hours on 9th Nov, till 00:01 hours on 10th Nov." NDTV
India has been told it must go off air on Wednesday as penalty for its coverage
of the Pathankot Air Force base in Jan.NDTV has refuted the claims that its Hindi
TV provided sensitive information during the attack and has said its broadcast
offered no details that were not reported by other channels and papers, adding
that it is considering all its options.
NDTV should’ve ‘repented’
to avoid action: Naidu
Chennai: I&B Minister
Venkaiah Naidu indicated that the Centre had decided to impose a one-day ban on
NDTV India because TV channel was “unrepentant” about its coverage of Pathankot
attack in Jan.this year. “Action was recommended so that the channel cannot get
away completely for being unrepentant in the matter,” Naidu said in
Chennai. News channel has been ordered
to go off air on Nov.9. The govt said NDTV India’s coverage gave out sensitive
details of the anti-terror operation and could have aided the terrorists. New India express

Ahmedabad: Various
political and social organisations have strongly condemned the central govt’s
decision to impose one-day ban on Nov.9 on NDTV India allegedly for revealing
“strategically sensitive” information during the channel’s coverage of the
Pathankot terrorist attack in January this year. They have demanded that the govt
withdraw the ban notification immediately in the interest of freedom of press
and democracy.State Congress vice-president Maulin Vaishnav said that the
action of the govt amounted to muzzling the freedom of press in the country.
“It amount to muzzling the freedom of press guaranteed under the Constitution,”
said Vaishnav. NCP state president Jayant Patel said that the decision against
the channel indicated there was a “mini-Emergency” in the country. Indian express

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind terms Bhopal
shootout staged, demands probe
New Delhi: Muslim group
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind on Saturday termed as "staged" the jailbreak of
8 undertrials from a jail in Madhya Pradesh and their deaths in a gunfight with
police, and demanded a probe into the matter. "How could the escapees got
access to weapons? Why are there contradictory statements from police on
whether they had weapons or not? How did they get new clothes, watches and
bands? If they had connections to get weapons, why couldn't they get vehicles
to escape?" asked the organisation. The Jamaat, which had expressed its
concern about the matter earlier, demanded a high-level judicial probe to bring
out all the facts about the Oct.31 incident, calling it fake. Jamaat also
accused the Modi govt of "straitjacketing" the whole society by
bringing the Uniform Civil Code."India is known for its plurality. It has
so many tribes and communities which have their own distinct cultures... by
imposing this code they (govt) are trying to destroy the society," its
Secretary General Saleem Engineer told IANS. "And to those who are
advocating for the UCC, must know that they in no way represent the crores of
Muslim women living under the current laws," he said. The Jamaat also
condemned the role of police and JNU administration in failing to do enough in
tracing Najeeb Ahmed, the JNU student who disappeared after being beaten up by
other students on the campus."They are not taking action fearing adverse
repercussions from the NDA govt whose Hindutva line they are toeing. I am very
dissatisfied with the whole investigation," Engineer added. The Jamaat also
expressed its dissatisfaction over the govt's one-day ban on NDTV news
channel.IANS

Mumbai: The decision of
Madhya Pradesh govt for conducting a judicial probe of Bhopal encounter has
been welcomed by the Jamiat-Ulema with the exception of pre-decided appointment
of retired High Court Judge SK Pandey to spearhead the investigation. An
official release issued late Friday night by MP govt stated that the judicial
probe will be conducted by retired High Court Justice SK Pandey."Justice Pandey
will probe all aspects related to how SIMI activists escaped from the high
security jail and the encounter that took place after that," it
said.Reacting to this declaration, Hafiz Nadeem Siddique, President of Jamiat
Ulema-e-Maharashtra raised questions over appointment of a particular retired
justice who is known for believing in the RSS ideology.“We welcome MP govt’s
decision of judicial probe but we want judges from other states in the
committee so that impartial investigation may be conducted. Govt has self
appointed a justice to head the probe who is lenient towards RSS and therefore
there is grave chance that the probe may favour RSS-backed MP govt”, Siddique

Bhopal : The chief minister
Shivraj Singh Chouhan might be shouting from the roof tops about how SIMI men
were ‘terrorists’ but five activists of the same organisation were released from Ujjain district’s Khachrod

court in Ujjain sentenced them to five-year imprisonment but the State govt
reduced their prison term and they were released within 15 days of their

SIMI ‘encounter’: Rights
groups take out silent march in Rajasthan
Jaipur: Human Rights Groups
in Kota on Friday took out a silent march to protest against the encounter of 8
SIMI members by MP police in Bhopal.Protesters took out the march from the
circuit house to collectorate accusing the MP govt of forging encounter to
polarize society. Hundreds of persons under the leadership of Sahar Qazi of
Kota, Alhaj Anwar Ahmed have termed encounter 'fake' and cold blooded murder.
They submitted a list of unanswered questions for MP police to the district
collector."The manner in which they escaped high security prison and went
into hiding all together atop a rock with a dead end raised should raised
suspicion in the minds of every logical person. The script narrated by the
investigating agencies is far away from the reality," said Anwar.Senior
advocate Mohanlal Rao has recalled series of incidents happening in the past as
a part of larger conspiracy. "I have no doubt that encounter is fake and I
can conclude that motive of this encounter is to polarized voters in the
upcoming elections in UP," said Rao. Similar protest was held in
Chittorgarh. Forum for democracy and communal amity in Jaipur has also decided
to held protest in Jaipur on Tuesday. Mohammad Iqbal of the forum has recalled
the incidents happened since the BJP govt came to power.TOI

JNU missing student
protest: Delhi police detain Najeeb Ahmed's mother and others
On Sunday, many JNU
students protested the govt over missing student Najeeb Ahmed near India Gate
in New Delhi. Najeeb Ahmed, a first-year MSc student at the School of
Biotechnology in JNU reportedly went missing on Oct.15 after allegedly being
beaten up by a mob of 20 students comprising ABVP members, who had gone
campaigning to his room for hostel elections. Delhi police reportedly detained
JNU students who were protesting the lack of action taken by the authorities.
Najeev’s mother Fatima Nafees was also detained. JNUSU had been protesting for
the last 20 days. Student leaders have also accused the ABVP of being involved
in the incident. Delhi police have refuted such accusations and claimed they
are trying to trace Najeeb. Police have also announced a Rs 2 lakh award for
anyone with credible.Police have reportedly imposed Section 144 at India Gate,
which prohibits unlawful assembly. After Delhi Police stopped JNU students from
staging protest at the India Gate over missing student Najeeb Ahmed, CM Arvind
Kejriwal on Sunday alleged that the Centre was adopting ‘dictatorship’ policy
and violating the constitutional right of an individual by adopting such
measures.‘Why is the PM afraid of protests’ If one student is missing since the
last 22 days then other students have the right to protest. This is their
constitutional right and the govt is trying to snatch their rights from them,’
said Kejriwal. DNA

Govt puts Zakir Naik's NGO
under prior permission list
New Delhi: Union home
ministry has placed IRF Education Trust, an NGO run by Zakir Naik, in 'prior
permission' category under the FCRA, requiring it to get all its foreign
funding approved by the home ministry. Intelligence sources said this was after
the NGO was found to be indulging in religion-related programmes and activities
that were at variance with its 'educational' objective as stated in its FCRA
licence.IRF Education Trust runs the Islamic International School in Mumbai and
Chennai. Its foreign funding is low, with intelligence sources putting the
cumulative contributions received from abroad over the past 10 years at no more
than Rs 2 crore. However, with intelligence reports drawing the govt's
attention to its alleged use of foreign funding for religious preaching that
spread communal hatred as well as non-filing of FCRA returns for a certain
year, the Centre decided to crack the whip on the NGO."On the basis or
records available and reports received from the intelligence agencies, the
Central govt is satisfied that IRF Education Trust had violated certain
provisions of the said Act," said the gazette notification issued by the
home ministry on Friday. It specifically mentioned Section 11 of the FCRA that
authorises NGOs to accept foreign funding for undertaking educational and
social programmes in India which are not detrimental to national
interest."Now, therefore, the Centre...hereby specifies that the IRF
Education Trust shall obtain prior permission of the Central govt on each
occasion before accepting any foreign contribution...," said the
notification.TOI

In first, NHRC prepares for
political appointee: BJP vice-president Rai likely to be appointed as member
New Delhi: In a move that
could have far-reaching impact, the BJP-led NDA govt at the Centre is in the
final stages of appointing a politician from its own ranks as a member of NHRC.
Sources in the NHRC said this is the first time an active politician is being
appointed to the post, which has remained vacant for over two years now.
According to sources, BJP vice-president Avinash Rai Khanna is likely to be
appointed as NHRC member in the next few days. Khanna, the party leader in
charge of J&K, was a member of the Rajya Sabha till April this year. The
chairperson and members of the NHRC are selected by a high-level committee
headed by PM, and comprising Lok Sabha Speaker, Union Home Minister, Leader of
the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha
and Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha. Sources said the panel met last month to
discuss names for the vacant post. “Some other names were also discussed, but
his (Khanna’s) name was cleared. There was no dissent,” said a member of the
panel. Section 3 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, which deals with
the issue of “Constitution of a NHRC”, says that only a former Chief Justice of
India can be appointed NHRC chairperson. indian express
Congress tacit support
helps BJP to saffronise NHRC; BJP national Vice President to be appointed as member?
Amit Shah makes it clear in
Saharanpur - It's BJP vs Muslims in UP:catchnews
BJP president Amit Shah flagged off the
party's Parivartan Yatra with a rally in Saharanpur. But as Shah's speech progressed,
it became clear that his talk of Parivartan and development in UP is just a
smokescreen. BJP's main strategy in these elections is to create a communal
polarisation by targetting UP's Muslim minority.BJP chose to begin its UP
campaign from Western UP's Saharanpur district, where Muslims account for 41%
of the population.Darul Uloom Deoband, which wields influence among a section
of Indian Muslims, is located in this district. It is also a place which
witnessed communal violence in July 2014, barely a few months after Modi govt
came to power. BJP has particularly been focusing on Saharanpur. PM Modi chose
to celebrate his 2 years in office with a rally in Saharanpur in May this year.
Amit Shah cleverly chose his targets in his speech, focusing on Muslim leaders
in SP and BSP."Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav projects himself as a Vikas
Purush. He says that as long as he is the chief minister, leaders like Afzal
Ansari and Mukhtar Ansari will not be included in the SP. The people of UP want
to ask you, that Afzal Ansari is in your party and you are still the CM. Under
your rule, what will happen to Afzal Ansari, what will you do about Ateeq
Ahmed, about Azam Khan? The entire SP is full of Ateeqs, Azams, Afzals and
Mukhtars".Entire SP is full of Afzals, Ateeqs, Azams and Mukhtars, Shah
saidClearly, this was not a reference to leaders with a criminal background
whom the SP has allegedly patronised. Had that been the case, he would have
mentioned the most notorious case - of Raghuraj Pratap Singh aka Raja Bhaiya.
While Mukhtar Ansari and Ateeq Ahmed do have a criminal background, the same
cannot be said about Azam Khan. Only thing common between all these leaders is
that they are all Muslims. catchnews
Baby’s father, spiritual
leader arrested for delaying breastfeeding
The superstitious father,
who had delayed breastfeeding of his newborn for a whole day, and a
controversial ‘spiritual leader’ have been arrested at Mukkam in Keala’s
Kozhikode district for cruelty against the baby under the Juvenile Justice (JJ)
Act.Police arrested Abubacker Siddique of Omassery who had prevented his wife
Hafsath from breastfeeding the newborn for 21 hours insisting that a newborn
should be breastfed only after hearing the Azan (prayer calls from mosques
given 5 times a day) 5 times, late Friday evening under the Section 75 of JJ
Act. Kalamthod Hydrose Thangal, a local ‘spiritual leader’ who had allegedly
counseled his followers not to breastfeed newborns until the Azan is heard five
times, was arrested on Saturday for abetting the crime. Hydrose Thangal, who
regularly held prayer meetings at his place, used to instill several
superstitions in his followers — such as advising offering long prayers by the
sick instead of seeking medical treatment. On Saturday, activists of DYFI, the
youth wing of the CPI(M) as well as the ISM, the youth wing of the Kerala
Nadvathul Mujahideen, took out rallies to Hydrose Thangal’s home.Meanwhile,
Siddique, in a Facebook post, apologized for his act. He said it was his `blind
faith and emotional troubles’ coupled with `misleading advice’ that had led to
delaying breast milk to his newborn. However, he pointed out that the baby had
been fed honey and water even when it had been denied of breast milk. No father
would starve his child, he said. “Let this not happen to anybody else,” he said
and asked for forgiveness. thehindu
