MP Muslim women allege
assault over 'buffalo meat' was at Bajrang Dal’s behest, 4 held
Mandsaur: The two Muslim
women who were thrashed at Mandsaur railway station on the suspicion of
carrying beef alleged on Thursday they were beaten at the behest of Bajrang Dal
workers, even as the GRP arrested 4 persons in this connection.“When we were
coming to Mandsaur, few Bajrang Dal members stopped us and enquired about what
we were carrying. We told them that it was ‘Paade ke meat’ (buffalo calf meat)
they did not listen to us and said that it was beef,” Salma, one of the
victims, told PTI.“Later, when we told them that get it examined from a doctor
(veterinarian), they did not agree to it and asked the other women with them to
beat us,” she alleged. The woman further alleged that they (activists) also
threatened policemen when the latter tried to protect them. The victims, Salma
Mevati (35) and Shamim Akthar Hussain (30) were allegedly thrashed by
self-appointed cow vigilantes. Later, police arrested the duo on suspicion of
carrying beef. However, after medical examination when it was found that it was
buffalo meat, police dropped the charges against them of carrying beef.
Subsequently, a local court last evening granted bail to the two women. Salma
demanded that those who attacked them and took law into their hands should be
arrested soon. The case was initially registered by Mandsaur Police and later
transferred to the Government Railway Police (GRP) as the incident took place
on the railway platform. GRP Ratlam’s deputy superintendent of police DRS
Chauhan said that four persons, identified as Govind Rao Chouhan, Dilip Devda,
Swadesh Chanal and Vikas Ahir, were arrested on Thursday in connection with the
incident.Regarding women involved in the incident, the DSP said that after
their identification they too would be arrested, and added that efforts are on
to trace them.PTI

New Delhi: No subsidy is
provided by the government on the export of beef or cow meat since its export
is not permitted, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told
Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. “No subsidy is provided on the export of cow meat. As
per the existing foreign trade policy, export of beef (meat of cows, oxen and

measures taken by the Marine Products Export Development Authority to bring
down the number of rejections include operating a nationwide network of

Aurangabad arms haul case:
12 including Zabiuddin Ansari convicted, 8 acquitted by MCOCA court
Mumbai: Maharashtra Control
of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on Thursday delivered the verdict on the 2006
Aurangabad arms haul case and found 12 accused including Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari
alias Abu Jundal guilty of waging war against the nation. The MCOCA court while
pronouncing the judgment also acquitted 8 accused. Jundal was found guilty
under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.The MCOCA court said that this
was a conspiracy after 2002 Gujarat riots to eliminate then Gujarat chief
minister Narendra Modi and VHP chief Pravin Togadia and convicted 12 accused in
the Aurangabad arms haul case. The court said that this was a larger conspiracy
to strike terror and they (accused) were calling it ‘jihad’. The trial, which
had resumed in 2013 after Abu Jundal’s arrest, had concluded in March this year
before the MCOCA Special Court here.It pertains to the May 8, 2006 operation by
Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad in which three terror suspects travelling in a
car were nabbed on the Chandwad-Manmad highway near Aurangabad. A total of 22
accused were arrested, including Abu Jundal who is accused plotting the 26/11
terror attacks. Earlier, the trial had been stayed by Supreme Court after one
of the accused had challenged the constitutional validity of certain provisions
in the MCOCA invoked on the accused. The stay was lifted in 2009. India.com

NIA charge sheet against 17-
IS suspects accuses religious institutions encouraging jihad: DNA report
New Delhi: Long before they were swept away by the
apocalyptic ideology of the Islamic State (IS), consuming its nihilistic
violence on social media and celebrating their victories in battlefields as the
militant group held sway in Iraq and Syria to establish a caliphate, the
process of radicalisation for some Indians, accused of setting up an
IS-inspired terror group, actually began at home, through religious revivalist
movements like the Tablighi Jamaat and the Jamaat-E-Islami Hind (JIH).The two
religious organisations and a Deoband preacher are accused of influencing over
half a dozen young men to wage a violent jihad. The damning disclosure is made
by the NIA in a charge sheet filed last week against 17 men accused of forming
an organisation, Junood ul Khilafa fil Hind, to establish a caliphate in India.
Before IS propaganda videos and magazines appeared on social media websites,
the journey of indoctrination of these accused started with institutions like
the revivalist Sunni proselytizing movement of Tablighi, lectures in mosques
across the country and jihadi literature available online. In the Islamophobic
world after 9/11, Mumbai resident Mudabbir Sheikh -- anointed as the emir,
chief of the Junood ul Khilafa group --was upset that society had turned
against Muslims, who were looked down upon as terrorists and treated as
'second-class citizens'.In 2007, Sheikh came into contact with an online group,
Mujahid Fi Sabiullah, which directed him to contact the JIH to fulfil his
desire to join the jihad. "He started visiting the JIH office in Byculla,
Mumbai, attended several programmes and got radicalised,'' the NIA charge sheet
states. The JIH is an offshoot of the Jamaat-e-Islami (now in Pakistan),
founded in 1941, and works as a religious organisation with a secular
outlook. In 2013, its Mumbai chapter slapped the Maharashtra state with a
defamation suit of Rs 10 crore for alleging that it was training and
radicalising Muslim girls for jihadi activities.Rajasthan resident Abu Anas,
Mohammad Shareef Moinuddin Khan from Hyderabad and Asif Ali from Bengaluru had
all joined the Tablighi movement before they were recruited as cadres of Junood
ul Khilafa. After finishing class 10, Asif entered the chillah, where one
spends 40 days with members of the Tablighi and learnt about Islamic theology,
how to offer namaz and how to bring back the misguided into the religious
fold."It was the time spent with the Tablighi that made Asif a religious
bigot with a narrow understanding of religious scriptures and a narrow world
view,'' the charge sheet adds. IT expert and ethical hacker, Anas and
Moinuddin, were also influenced by Tablighi movement and the former tried to
recruit pro-IS cadre in Pune. DNA

SHRC orders inquiry into
‘forced conversion’
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala
Human Rights Commission on Wednesday ordered the State police to investigate
the suspected forced conversion of an aeronautical engineering student to
Islam.Chairperson J.B. Koshy ordered the probe on the basis of a complaint
filed by the student’s mother, Mini Vijayan. She told the commission that her
daughter had run away with a “mysterious set of people” a fortnight before her
marriage. She believed they had converted her to Islam. She feared they would
radicalise her and persuade her to join the Islamic State. Ms. Vijayan said
Aparna had joined for aeronautical engineering in a college run by the Jewel
Educational Trust. At the behest of her friends, Aparna moved to a private
hostel run by a woman Ms. Vijayan identified as Hasmin. In her complaint, Ms.
Vijayan said she had seen her daughter in the video images broadcast by the
Therbiyath Islam Sabha Mukthar group. Aparna’s parents filed a habeas corpus
writ petition in the High Court. One woman who identified herself as Sumaya
produced Aparna in the court. She being an adult, the court allowed Aparna to
act on her own free will. Aparna chose to go with Sumaya. Ms. Vijayan said that
Aparna was now in the custody of the Sathya Sarani Charitable Trust at Manjeri

Post communal clash,
Aligarh residents reject exodus claims
Meerut: A week after a
communal clash in Aligarh led BJP leaders to allege a “Kairana-like Hindu
exodus from Aligarh,” Hindu residents on Tuesday said there was no such mass
migration. They ran a signature campaign condemning the attempts of “politicians
to polarise and create communal tension in the area.”“We oppose the communal
tone given to a criminal incident and a law and order issue. The police
arrested the culprit in the eve-teasing incident but the issue is being blown
out of proportion and communalised by political leaders,” said Vinod Saxena, a
resident of Babri Mandi who endorsed the signature campaign.Another resident,
Rajvir Singh, said “after a week of communal tension in the area, the situation
is gradually becoming peaceful.”“The allegation of exodus is not true. There
was tension and a few people had approached the district administration to sell
their houses but that was more to pressure the administration. There was a law
and order issue but that was sorted out,” Mr. Singh said.Umesh Kumar, another
resident of Babri Mandi, said the clash was initially limited to just one lane
in the area but due to the “continuous politicisation and communalisation of
the issue and the vernacular press reporting those claims there was further
tension.” Kumar claimed that those families who had last week said they wanted
to sell their houses had not shifted anywhere. the hindu

Ashish Drivastava said, "I got a phone call about this incident. There was
no written complaint. Later I got to know that the boy has got the admission in
the same institution."Ghulam Gaus (24), a resident of Azad Nagar in
Haldwani, said, "When I went to the institute on Monday for admission, I
was told by a woman official that since I was sporting a beard the institute
will refuse admission to me. It hurt me. I could not understand the reason. We

This 19-yr-old Muslim bride
divorced her husband over phone: indianexpress
You are aware of the three
words “talaaq, talaaq, talaaq” that are used by some Muslim men in certain
parts of the world to divorce their wives. But this 19-year-old Lucknow girl
Mohsina turned the tables on her husband when she said “talaaq, talaaq, talaaq”
over the phone as her husband and his family demanded dowry, reported The
Telegraph.Reportedly, during unofficial panchayat that was held for hearing the
case, Mohsina’s husband Mohammed Arif put the phone on speaker and apologised
to his bride for asking for dowry. But the woman didn’t relent and said the
three words, much to her husband’s shock. The panchayat then asked Arif to say
the words and finalise the divorce because it’s the husband’s word that’s
followed.Arif demanded more dowry from Mohsina on the wedding night itself. She
called her mother Anwari Begum who immediately asked her to return. A few
people from the village went and brought Mohsina back to Bhagwanpur-Nangla, 10
km away from Arif’s house in Baghpat district’s Daha. The panchayat also asked
Arif’s family to pay Rs 2 lakh to the bride’s mother, the money that she had
spent on the wedding. Also, they ordered the prohibition of any wedding in
Arif’s family for the next three years. These rulings are obviously not legal
but hold immense value in the local communities.“Both Hindus and Muslims had
agreed to last month’s decision against the practice of dowry. That’s why the
village elders decided to punish Sattar’s family,” Sunil Kumar, who had
presided over the panchayat, told The Telegraph.indianexpress
No water supply and
electricity for Muslim families in Vadodara
Vadodara: At Kapurai in
Vadodara, about 130 odd families, mostly Muslims, who were allotted homes under
the Basic Services to Urban Poor (BSUP) scheme after the demolition of the
their slums at Sulemani Chawl, have been living without electricity and water
supply since they moved in about a month ago.On May 31, Vadodara Municipal
Corporation (VMC) had demolished 318 homes in the Muslim-populated Sulemani
Chawl as part of “Slum free Vadodara” project and started working on resettling
them in Kapurai area on Dabhoi Road, where upper caste Hindus reside. Kapurai
is located near Hanuman Tekri, where the infamous best bakery burning case
occurred during the 2002 riots in which 14 people were killed. The bakery was
run by a Muslim family. On the eve of demolition of the Sulemani Chawl, the VMC
officials carried a survey and identified 318 families staying in the area. On
verification of their documents, the VMC zeroed down on 232 families that were
eligible to get alternative housing in a housing scheme for the urban poor.
Officials said that the civic body also conducted a draw to allocate houses to
the beneficiaries from Sulemani Chawl. However, on June 2, the residents of
Kapurai wrote to the authorities, opposing the VMC’s decision to relocate the
displaced Muslim families there. indianexpress
No need to leave country
for Islam: Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen
Kozhikode: Speakers at a
discussion on ‘Pluralism – neo-Salafism – Terrorism’ organised by the Kerala
Nadvathul Mujahideen (KNM) Markazuda'wa here on Wednesday exhorted the faithful
to be vigilant against extremism and ultra-spiritualism being propagated in the
name of Islam. In his inaugural address, the Mujahid faction leader, Hussain
Madavoor, who is also the general secretary of the All India Islahi Movement,
said that spiritualism transcending beyond a point was fanatical. The
Constitution of India had enshrined rights for Muslims just like other
religious communities, including Hindus and Christians, to follow their customs
and beliefs. There was no need for Muslims to leave the country to lead an
Islamic life, Mr. Madavoor said. A concerted effort irrespective of any
affiliations was required to take on those attempting to destroy the communal
harmony in the State. Now, a tendency had taken shape towards Sufism and
radicalism. The Mujahid movement had once campaigned for a pluralistic society
when Muslim fundamentalism reared its head 15 years ago. Such endeavours should
be continued, he said. thehindu

Exclusive: RSS chief
Golwalkar threatened to kill Gandhi - 1947 CID report
The Supreme Court, in its
oral observations, has upbraided Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for his
statement that "RSS people" killed Mahatma Gandhi. In the apex
court's wisdom, young Rahul Gandhi could not make a "collective denunciation"
of the RSS or the Rashtirya Swayamsewak Sangh. It is a moot point whether it is
for a court of law to give a clean bill of health to the RSS, 68 years after
the assassination of the Mahatma. Two important questions, however, remain
unanswered: Did the RSS threaten to kill Mahatma Gandhi? And, did the RSS have
the capability or the means to do so?Reports available in the public domain in
the Delhi Police Archives say that the RSS did threaten Gandhi and claimed that
it had the means to silence him. These are the secret source reports of the CID
of the Delhi Police for the months preceding Gandhi's assassination. Here are
some extracts from the verbatim copy of a police report of a crucial RSS
meeting where The threat was made. CID source is identified only as

volunteers) and filed by Inspector Kartar Singh of the department. catchnews

Modi govt trusts Gautam
Adani with countering China-Pakistan's Gwadar port project: Reuters
New Delhi: A conglomerate
has started building India's first transshipment port, conceived 25 years ago,
and the government will construct another $4-billion facility nearby to create
a shipping hub rivalling Chinese facilities in the region. The government will
grant billionaire Gautam Adani 16 billion rupees ($240 million) so-called
"viability gap" funding to help the new port at Vizhinjam, on India's
southern tip, win business from established hubs elsewhere in Asia. Once Vizhinjam,
in the state of Kerala, is operational the federal government will start
building the port of Enayam in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, said a senior shipping
ministry official. Enayam alone will save more than $200 million in costs for
Indian companies every year, he said. India's 7,500-km (4,700-mile) coastline
juts into one of the world's main shipping routes and Prime Minister Narendra
Modi wants to capitalise on that proximity by developing ports that can shift
freight on to huge vessels capable of carrying up to 18,000 20-foot containers.
The lack of an Indian domestic transshipment port forces inbound and outbound
containers to take a detour to one of those regional hubs before heading to
their final destination. New Delhi expects the new ports to save Indian
companies hundreds of millions of dollars in transport costs, as well as ease
concerns over the growing strategic clout in South Asia of rival China, which
has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in Sri Lankan ports at Colombo and
Hambantota. Adani wants the Vizhinjam port, which an arm of his Adani Group is
building at a cost of around $1 billion, to be operational in 2018. The port
lies hard by the Gulf-to-Malacca shipping lane that carries almost a third of
world sea freight.
