2 more held in Maharashtra terror plot case,
map with Sunburn location recovered
Maharashtra ATS has arrested two more persons
from Jalgaon district for their purported links with the right-wing module that
was allegedly plotting terror attacks across the state.Vasudev Suryawanshi and
Vijay Lodhi, both residents of Sakli in Jalgaon district, were being “examined”
by ATS since Friday after their names cropped up in the case. After sustained
investigation, the two were arrested on Saturday . They will be produced before
the court on Sunday. ATS has also reportedly seized CDs with arms training
content, books on bomb-making and maps of different cities, one of which has
the location of Sunburn festival in Pune, during a raid conducted at Vasudev’s
garage.“Lodhi, who own a small business, is married has two daughters. He is
the sole breadwinner of the family,” said an ATS officer. ATS suspects that
Vasudev was providing vehicles to the other accused for doing recce across the
state and zero in on the spots for terror attacks. Police also said that they
were trying to find out whether the vehicle used by the killers of rationalist
Narendra Dabholkar in Pune was also provided by Vasudev.Last month, ATS
arrested Hindu Govansh Raksha Samiti coordinator Vaibhav Raut, Sharad Kalaskar
from Nallasopara, Sudhanwa Gondhalekar from Pune, former Sena corporator
Shrikant Pangarkar from Jalna and Avinash Pawar from Mumbai after recovering a

On fifth anniversary of Muzaffarnagar riots,
Amnesty accuses UP govt of doing little to ensure justice
New Delhi: Amnesty International has
castigated the Yogi Adityanath government in UP for doing little to ensure
justice and rehabilitation for the survivors of 2013 Muzaffarnagar communal
violence. On fifth anniversary of the deadly riots in Muzaffarnagar district
that claimed at least 60 lives and displaced over 50,000 people, the Amnesty
International India blamed the state govt's apathy for seven gang-rape
survivors still awaiting justice and the displaced continuing to look for
rehabilitation."UP govt has forgotten the riot survivors of Muzaffarnagar
and Shamli. The state has done very little to redress the injustice they have
faced. The govt's attempt at rehabilitation and compensation has been woefully
inadequate",said Asmita Basu, Programmes Director, Amnesty International
India. She said justice remained elusive for the seven gangrape survivors who
have received little assistance from authorities to rebuild their lives and
livelihoods."There has not been even one conviction in any of the seven
cases so far. In 2016, one of the survivors died during childbirth," she
said.Quoting one of the survivors, a mother of five, Amnesty International
India said the victims have lost all hope of getting justice and are now hoping
for survival of their families."Their rapists have been out in the open
for years now. Women are scared to pursue their cases and they cannot be blamed
for this. There are media reports of compromises being made and of money being
offered and accepted by many of the seven families. We need to understand the
realities in which these women have survived all these years. They are scared
and have lost all faith in the system,"said Rehana Adeeb, an activist
working with the survivors.Rights body said an overwhelming majority of
families in resettlement colonies lack access to basic services like clean
drinking water and drainage facilities."UP govt's callous treatment of
Muzaffarnagar and Shamli riot survivors is a breach of its commitment to uphold
basic constitutional values. The riot survivors have been forced to live in a
vicious cycle of poverty and discrimination. Uttar Pradesh chief minister must
ensure that voices of the survivors are heard immediately and justice is delayed
no further", added Basu.IANS

UP: Hindu who takes care of mosque he saved
during 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots
Muzaffarnagar: For Ramveer Kashyap, a
59-year-old mason in Muzaffarnagar’s Nanheda village, taking care of the lone
120-year-old mosque is a “religious” duty. At daybreak, he cleans up the mosque,
lights a candle in the evening and even gets the structure whitewashed once
before every Ramzan. At the height of communal tension during the infamous 2013
riots, when a group of rioters decided to demolish the mosque, Kashyap risked
his life to save it and gathered village men in his support. “My faith teaches
me to respect all places of worship,” he told TOI.Surprisingly, the village
doesn’t have a single Muslim inhabitant. Located 40 km from the district HQ, Nanheda
is a Jat-dominated village with a few Dalits and OBCs residing here.According
to Ramveer, the village had a large number of Muslims during the British era.
“However, they moved out gradually after Independence. Now, an occasional
visitor or a traveller offers namaz here once in a while,” he said.“I stay
barely 100 metres away from the mosque. I grew up watching the structure and
playing around it. For me, it is a place of worship, which deserves respect. In
the absence of anyone taking care of it, I took up the responsibility as a
young man. For the past 25 years, I broom the premises daily and ensure basic
maintenance,”Ramveer said. Being a mason came in handy, as he takes care of the
occasional wear and tear in the structure from time to time. Because of his
act, Ramveer enjoys a lot of respect in his own village and in the
region.Nanheda village pradhan Dara Singh said, “It has been nearly 50 years
since the last Muslim family moved out of the village. But the mosque remains
and is maintained the way it should be. And the credit for this goes to Ramveer
who even spends his own money to get it whitewashed once before every Ramzan.
At times, his family members also assist him in cleaning up the place.”TOI
Ram temple will be built in Ayodhya as
‘Supreme Court is ours’, says UP minister
Ayodhya:Uttar Pradesh minister Mukut Bihari
Verma sparked a controversy on Saturday with his comments that the Ram temple
will be built in Ayodhya because “the SC is ours”.“Temple is our resolve. It
will surely come up and we are all committed to it,” he said, talking to
journalists in Bahraich on Saturday. When a journalist reminded him that the
verdict in the temple case in the SC is yet to be delivered, the minister
casually said, “yes, precisely because the matter is with SC. The SC is ours,
isn’t it? The judiciary is ours, the country is ours and the temple is ours
too.”Verma, a 4-term BJP lawmaker from Bahraich, is the minister for
cooperatives. Some in the opposition felt that such remarks were a deliberate
attempt to keep the temple issue in the news in the hope it would help polarise
the atmosphere ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. As his remark started being
played out on news channels, Verma told HT on the phone that he was quoted out
of context. But in his bid to explain, the minister again ended up repeating
the same statement.UP’s labour minister Swami Prasad Maurya, who was sitting by
Mukut Bihari Verma’s side in Bahraich, refused to comment on the controversy.

World Hindu Congress in US: Protests over NDA
govt's alleged 'actions against minorities'
Chicago: At the second World Hindu Congress
being held in Chicago a group of protesters briefly disrupted the proceedings.
The protestors reportedly opposed the Indian government's alleged "actions
against religious minorities". The inaugural session of the conference was
attended by 2,500 delegates and Hindu leaders from more than 60 countries. Two
of the women protesters were arrested on Friday evening and local police
charged them with disorderly conduct and trespassing. They were released later
in the night. Representing the Chicago South Asians for Justice, the two women
speaking on condition of anonymity told PTI that they protested during World
Hindu Congress to urge the leaders attending it to oppose the "current
actions of the government against religious minorities".RSS chief Mohan
Bhagwat and its joint general secretary Dattatreya Hosbale and six other top
Hindu religious leaders were participating in a panel discussion on collective
efforts for Hindu resurgence when the protesters seated at two different places
in the hall suddenly stood on their chairs and started raising slogans such as
"Stop Hindu Fascism" and "RSS turn around, we do not want you in
town."Vice President Venkaiah Naidu is slated to address the WHC
Sunday." About 6 of us were at the WHC today. We were there to protest the
conference, the organiser, the speakers, and the attendees and their support
for the current and historic violence that's been propagated by RSS and other
similar organisations," one of woman protestors told PTI after being
released. 2 of these women were handcuffed as they came out of the hotel. The
police arrested another individual for allegedly spitting on them. "He did
that in front of the police,"she said. oneindia.com
World Hindu Congress: Sharmila-Pataudi
marriage clear case of 'love jihad'
‘Love
jihad’ became one of the blistering issues discussed at the World Hindu
Congress in Chicago under the presence of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.Citing
examples of inter-faith marriages in India, banners were put up on the first
day of the event denouncing religious conversion of Indian women. One such
example highlighted was of noted film actress Sharmila Tagore’s marriage to ex cricket
skipper Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Dileep Ameen, writer, attending the
event, said “Sharmila Tagore was forced to change her name to Begum Ayesha
Sultan after converting to Islam. She had to raise her kids as Muslims and so
were their names changed.”“Sharmila’s son Saif also married a Hindu woman
Amrita Singh and deserted her. His second wife Kareena Kapoor refused to adopt
an Islamic name. Our question is whether their child will be raised under the
shadow of Hindusim,” he added. He said all over the world there’s silent
holocaust taking place against Hindus.Meanwhile, in controversial statement,
Bhagwat gave a call to Hindus to unite with an analogy that has stirred a political
row. Bhagwat said, “If a lion is alone, wild dogs can invade and destroy
him".ABP/ times now

RSS chief blasted for ‘lion vs wild dogs’
remarks
New Delhi:RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has been
blasted by the Opposition parties for his controversial speech at the World
Hindu Congress in Chicago, US.Asserting that Hindus neither oppose anybody nor
aspire to dominate, Bhagwat on Saturday said the community needs to unite to
end its “centuries of sufferings”.Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar said that the
“dog” reference was for the “Opposition parties” in the country.“I condemn this
‘mansikta’ (mentality) of Mohan Bhagwat that he has referred to Opposition
parties in the country as dogs,” he said. The Opposition Congress and the NCP
too slammed the RSS and said that its ideology was “anti-Hindu”.NCP leader Nawab
Malik said,“The ideology of RSS and BJP is anti-Hindu and they only know how to
do caste politics.”Congress leader Sachin Sawant said, “RSS ideology is
anti-Hindu. It is known for hatred towards other castes and religions. It is
shameful of the RSS chief to describe any religion in this way.” Attacking
Bhagwat over his remarks,AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said RSS was demeaning
others.“RSS is trying to demean people by calling others dogs and assuming
themselves as the tiger,” he said. caravandaily
Those involved in lynchings cannot call
themselves nationalists, says Venkaiah Naidu
New Delhi :Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has
said those involved in incidents of hate and lynching cannot call themselves
nationalists while holding that legislation alone was not enough as a change in
societal behaviour was required to prevent such cases. The vice president also
expressed anguish over the politicisation of incidents of lynching, saying such
cases should not be linked with political parties.“Societal change (is needed).
This (lynching) is not because of this party or that party. The moment you attribute
it to these parties, the cause is lost. That is what is happening, let me be
very frank,” he said. Asked about the incidents of hate and lynching, he said
it was not a new trend and there were such instances in the past also.“It is
the societal behaviour that has to change…when you kill the other man, how can
you call yourself nationalist. On the basis of religion, on the basis of caste
or on the basis of colour, or on the basis of gender, you discriminate.
Nationalism, Bharat Mata Ki Jai has a wider meaning,” Naidu said. He said “some
of these things” cannot be tackled through legislation alone, and a societal
change was needed to check them. The government has been under attack from
Congress and several other opposition parties for a spate of lynchings in
various parts of the country in the last couple of years. According to Home
Ministry data, around 40 people were lynched in nine states in the past one
year. The opposition and various civil rights groups have also accused the
government of not coming down hard on those involved in the incidents.PTI

Uproar in Assam over NRC official’s report to
Supreme Court
Guwahati :Ahead of the claims-and-objections
round of NRC, political parties and civil society organisations in Assam have
reacted sharply to NRC state coordinator Prateek Hajela’s report to the Supreme
Court in which he suggested that those now seeking inclusion into the list be
allowed to submit only 10 out of the original 15 “list A” documents.5 documents
that Hajela asked to be excluded are the 1951 NRC, voter lists up to March 24,
1971, citizenship certificates, refugee registration certificates and ration
cards issued prior to March 24, 1971, the cut-off for inclusion into the latest
list. Over 40 lakh people who had been excluded from the final NRC draft
published on July 30 have been given the option of filing fresh claims.A
statement by the Assam BJP, signed by party general secretary Dilip Saikia,
said Hajela’s report had “complicated the situation”. “In the final NRC draft,
names of several lakh Indians belonging to the Gorkha, Bengali and
Hindi-speaking communities have been left out,” the statement read.It also said
that state party president Ranjit Dass, who is attending BJP national executive
meeting in Delhi, would take up the matter of “inclusion of names of genuine
Indian citizens in NRC” with central leaders of the party. On Sept.10, Dass is
scheduled to address the press and clarify the party’s stand on NRC updation

Modi Govt. The opposition parties and many activists have been questioning the
change in the deal for the purchase of the Rafael fighter jets by the present

from France's Dassault was allegedly altered to buy only 36 fighter planes for
around Rs 60,000 crore."After the expose, the NDA government doesn't have

Let's make Modi govt realise its mistakes: Raj
Thackeray's MNS joins Bharat Bandh
MNS, led by Raj Thackeray, has extended its
support to the Bharat Bandh, called by the Congress party on Monday, September
10, over continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices.Releasing a statement in
this regard on Sunday, MNS chief Raj Thackeray said that the common man is in
anguish as the prices of petrol and diesel have sky rocketed. “MNSextends its
full support to the bandh and will actively participate in it,” said Thackeray.
Thackeray further said that though the fuel prices are linked to the global
markets, the central and state governments have imposed heavy taxes on
this.“The country’s policies cannot be based on the whims and fancies of one
person,” said the MNS chief, taking a dig at PM Narendra Modi without naming
him. The statement by Thackeray also made reference to the issue of
demonetisation. It read, “The demonetisation step was a huge blunder and its
repercussions plummeted our economy into a precarious state. To cover this up,
heavy taxes are being imposed on fuel, as an effort to bring back the economic
conditions to normalcy. Why is the common man being made to pay a price for the
miscalculation on part of the Central govt?”Several political parties such as
the NCP, RJD, SP and DMK have declared that they would join the Bharat Bandh
called by Congress. TMC has, however, refused to be a part of the bandh.zeenews

UN rights chief urges Egypt to overturn mass
death sentences
UN's human rights chief, Michele Bachelet, has
asked Egypt to overturn mass death sentences handed down to members of the
opposition, including senior members of the Muslim Brotherhood. On Saturday, an
Egyptian court delivered death sentences to 75 people over their participation
in a 2013 sit-in protest at Rabaa al-Adawiya Square in Cairo that ended with
security forces killing hundreds of protesters. Those present were protesting a
military coup a month earlier, which overthrew Egypt's first freely elected
president, Mohamed Morsi - a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. If carried out,
the sentences "would represent a gross and irreversible miscarriage of
justice", Bachelet said, further describing the trials as
"unfair".Defendants were denied the right to individual lawyers and
to present evidence, while "the prosecution did not provide sufficient
evidence to prove individual guilt", she added in a statement.Brotherhood
leaders Essam el-Erian and Mohamed Beltagi were sentenced to death, while
Mohamed Badie, the Brotherhood's spiritual leader, was handed a life sentence.
In total 46 people were handed life sentences, while 612 others received prison
terms ranging from five to 15 years after a mass trial in Cairo.aljazeera

Anti-Islam Dutch Lawmaker Says No More Prophet
Cartoons, for Now
Cernobbio: Dutch lawmaker and anti-Islam
campaigner Geert Wilders has said he has no plans, for now, to revive a
competition of cartoons depicting the Prophet after it emerged as a motive for
a stabbing in Amsterdam last week.Wilders, speaking on the sidelines of a
conference in Italy, expressed shock over the attack, in which a man stabbed
and injured 2 American tourists at Amsterdam's central station. Dutch media
identified the assailant as a 19-year-old Afghan. The attack came after Wilders
cancelled plans to hold the cartoon competition, which had also drawn a
complaint by Pakistan's new foreign minister, who said cartoon depictions of
the Prophet could incite hate and intolerance."For now I will not be doing
it soon again, for sure," Wilders told Reuters at the Ambrosetti conference,
where he had been invited to speak on the future of the European Union."On
the one hand you say that you should never give in to people who threaten to
use violence against freedom of speech," he said, adding that he had spent
15 years living in safe houses and escorted by a security detail due to
