SC asks Assam NRC coordinator to submit
district-wise percentage of excluded people
New Delhi:The Supreme Court today asked Assam
National Register of Citizens (NRC) coordinator to place before it the data of
district-wise percentage of population excluded from the NRC draft in the
state. A bench comprising justices Ranjan Gogoi, Navin Sinha and K M Joseph
sought the response of all the stakeholders including All Assam Students Union,
All Assam Minority Students Union on the Centre’s Standard Operating Procedures
(SOPs) on the NRC issue.It directed the state NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela to
make available the copies of draft NRC at all panchayat offices so that public
can access it easily.The apex court said that the claim and objection forms on
the Assam NRC issue will be made available to the general public from August
20.It also said that the receipt of claim and objection forms from the public
will commence on August 30.The court posted the matter for further hearing on
August 28.On August 14, the Centre had told the apex court that distinct IDs
will be created by collecting biometric details of 40 lakh people filing claims
and objections with respect to the NRC.It said that after the publication of
the final list of NRC, those people whose names will figure in it will be given
usual Aadhaar number as applicable to legal residents in the country.Names of
40,70,707 people do not figure in the list. Of these, 37,59,630 names have been
rejected and the remaining 2,48,077 are on hold. PTI

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind to train volunteers to
help NRC inclusion in Assam
In order to assist people of Assam who had
been left out of the National Register of Citizens, the Assam chapter of
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) will train 250 volunteers with legal and IT
expertise.“We are waiting for the August 16 verdict of the Supreme Court before
initiating the training process. There are about 3.5 lakh people from south
Assam who have been left out from the NRC and in the first phase we intend to
help at least one lakh people getting their documents straight for
reapplication,” said Noorul Islam, zonal president (south Assam), JIH.He said
that they had intended to train 130 volunteers for the work but so far had received
over 300 applications for the work. “We are screening them and the chosen ones
would be readied for a workshop on August 19 where they would be trained by
legal and IT experts. Some of the NRC employees – present and past – have
themselves agreed to train these people up,” Islam said.JIH will also pay an
honorarium of Rs 7000 to each of these volunteers for their services.There had
been cases where people have been excluded from the list for simple mistakes in
their documents – clerical and otherwise. Many have also been victims of
circumstances as their birth certificates had been detected to be fake ones.
“The person is there physically which proves he had been born and that someone
handed the family fake certificates against some money. Now they need to be
told how to make a new, original birth certificate,” Islam added. He also said
that there was a format of application which these people need to be taught and
that many people who had been excluded on the flimsy ground would easily be
included in the list. The services will begin on August 20.Sources also said
that there were also some technical experts brought on board because some of
the work could be done online which the people needed to be assisted with and
some could also be taught the process. “We have about 37 lakh people from north
Assam. In all, of the 40 lakh, people excluded there are 15 lakh Muslims. There
will be several camps put up at different places and we are aiming at including
at least 20 lakh people from this zone. We are also in talks with different
human rights organisation which have extended helping hands. In the first phase
we will engage 100 volunteers,” said Abdul Basit, zonal president (north
Assam), JIH. He said that all eyes were on the Supreme Court ruling on Thursday
about the NRC and then the next course of action would be prepared.DNA

Hojai: The pot holed road, ravaged by rain,
which leads to the sleepy town of Hojai in central Assam is lined with
billboards and posters about philanthropic work done by its most famous
resident - perfume baron and Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal who heads AIUDF. He
runs a hospital, a public school among other things.While Ajmal’s name figures
in the complete draft of NRC, almost every third applicant’s name in Hojai
district does not. A total of 3,36,789 applicants or 33% of the total
applicants have been excluded from the draft, maximum in the state, a senior
district administration official said on condition of anonymity. Shamsuddin, a
cleric who works as a vice president in one of the organisations connected to
Badruddin Ajmal, is clueless why he and five others in the family do not figure
in the complete draft.“I submitted copies of my land document from 1966 which I
got from Bihar,” said Shamsuddin (62), who moved to Hojai from East Champaran
to work as a teacher in a local madrassa.Like Shamsuddin, Nanigopal Debnath,
too, moved to Hojai town in 1970s. He first left his home in Jamunamukh, a
neighbouring town in 1960 when violence erupted between Bengalis and Assamese.
Debnath says the families, which had returned had to leave again in 1972, when
there was renewed violence. Debnath, is unemployed, distraught and claims that
despite the documents, the whole family has been left out of the draft. Debnath
claims that in Shanti Ban, where the family lives, over 30% Bengali Hindus have
been left out of the draft.HT

Kolkata: Upping the ante on her opposition to
the draft NRC in Assam, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has claimed that 38 lakh
Bengali-speaking persons - both Hindus and Muslims- were left out of the
list."Unfortunately, most Indian citizens left out of the draft NRC in
Assam speak Bengali (language)... Out of over 40 lakh persons left out, around
25 lakh are Hindus and 13 lakh Muslims who speak Bengali," she told
reporters here."People not included in the list are being branded as either
infiltrators or refugees by BJP leaders and harassed," Trinamool Congress
chief said, adding that people's freedom cannot be snatched in the name of NRC.

Guwahati: A 9-year old boy, whose photograph
of saluting the tricolour in chest-deep flood water in an Assam school on
Independence Day last year had gone viral, has failed to find a place in the
final draft of NRC.Tajen Sikdar, the head teacher of the primary school in
Dhubri district, who had stood in the flood water with Haider Ali Khan and 2
others, told PTI on Wednesday that Haider’s name was not in the draft NRC that
was published on July 30, though those of his family members were there.The
eligible documents, including Haider’s linkage and legacy data drawn from his
great grandfather Sukur Ali, who was in the 1951 NRC, his birth certificate,
family land records and a certificate from his school were submitted in 2015
for the inclusion of his name in the NRC, Sikdar said.HT

New Delhi: Delhi Police Special Cell Thursday
launched a manhunt to nab 2 young men who claimed they have attacked JNU
student Umar Khalid. In a 4-minute video being circulated on WhatsApp, the two
young men, one of them holding the Indian flag, said they would surrender at
the house of Sikh revolutionary Kartar Singh Sarabha on Aug.17.They claimed,
“by attacking Khalid we wanted to give a gift to the people on the occasion of
Independence Day.” The two men
identified themselves as Sarvesh Shahpur and Naveen Dalal and appealed to the
police not to “harass” others for the attack.“If their claim found to be
corroborative, they will be arrested,” a police officer from the Special Cell
said.Police said that they would take the help of their counterparts in Haryana
and Punjab to track down the two men. Police suspect the video was recorded

Maharashtra ATS will now probe if there is any
link between the arrested suspects and the letter bomb incidents that took
place earlier in Ahmednagar and Pune.ATS sources said the material Vaibhav

Gondhalkar, 39, held from Pune, used along with the circuit hints at a link. 3,

Nalasopara has heaved a big sigh of relief
after the arrest of suspected Sanatan Sanstha member Vaibhav Raut, who had allegedly terrorised his neighbourhood
with his activities. According to the police, Raut, who called himself a gau
rakshak, has been involved in a series of attacks on butchers in the area every
Bakri-eid. Raut allegedly tried to create communal tension, particularly in the
neighbouring Sopara village, by harassing locals and carrying out illegal raids
on mutton and beef shops.Sopara village's Muslim community, especially the
butchers, lived in fear and insecurity due to Raut's activities — even when
beef hadn't been banned by the government, he would go around conducting
'raids' on meat shops and harassing the owners, said a local, Anis Qureshi.
Speaking to mid-day, he added, "In 2014, Raut forcibly stopped my tempo in
his area and assaulted the driver. The driver called me and I went to the spot,
but Raut and his colleague abused and assaulted me too, saying I was smuggling
cow meat. They forcibly took me and my tempo to Nalasopara police station. I
have never carried or supplied cow meat; after I showed all the relevant
documents to the cops, they let me go and registered a case against Raut and

Suspect in Gauri Lankesh killing confesses to
involvement in Kalburgi murder
New Delhi: Confirming speculation that the
same group of people were behind the assassinations of rationalists and
anti-Hindutva writers, one of the suspects arrested in the killing of
journalist Gauri Lankesh has confessed to the SIT that he was also involved in murder
of professor M.M. Kalburgi. According to Bangalore Mirror, Ganesh Miskin, who
was arrested for ferrying suspected Lankesh shooter Parashuram Waghmare to her
home, confessed he was one of the people who arrived at Kalburgi’s home and
knocked on the door to shoot him dead.A SIT is probing Lankesh’s murder, while
the CID is investigating the killing of Kalburgi. SIT had already established
that the same gun was used for both the assassinations. Kalburgi was shot dead
at his residence on August 30, 2015, while Lankesh was also killed at her

Mob kills one, injures 3 in Assam over
suspicion of cow theft
Guwahati:One person was killed and 3 others
seriously injured in an attack by a mob over suspicions that they were cow
thieves in Biswanath district of upper Assam, police said on Thursday.
According to the police, the incident took place at Diplunga tea estate, nearly
230km from the state capital, early on Wednesday.“4 persons from Sootea were
travelling in a tempo van when they were attacked by a mob at 4:00am. Locals
allege the victims had stolen cows,” said a police official from Sootea police
station on the condition of anonymity.The police said two stolen cows were
recovered from the van. While the driver of the vehicle escaped from the scene,
a mob of nearly 20 people attacked the four men with sticks and clubs.A video
of the incident captured on a mobile phone, which is doing the rounds on social
media, shows the victims sitting on the ground and pleading to be spared with
folded hands while others rained blows on them.“We were on our way to buy pigs
from Diplunga tea estate early on Wednesday morning when a mob armed with
sticks, iron rods etc. stopped us and started attacking, accusing us of being
cow thieves,” one of the injured victims told local television channels.The
police, however, maintain that the victims had stolen cows and were
transporting them.“A case of cow theft has been registered. We have no
information about the victims going to buy pigs. Since they are injured we are
yet to record their statements,” said the official.The injured victims were
taken to a private nursing home in Biswanath Chariali town where one of them,
Deben Rajbongshi, died. The other three, Phoolchand Sahu, Bijoy Nayak and Pujen
Rajbongshi, who sustained injuries on their heads, legs and arms, are
undergoing treatment.All the victims belong to the ‘adivasi’ community who are
mainly employed in the tea gardens of the area.“We have launched an operation
against those responsible for the attack on the victims. No one has been

New Delhi :Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former prime
minister and BJP stalwart, passed away on Thursday. He was 93. Vajpayee was
admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in June. Vajpayee, who
had been ailing for long, retreated from active public life over the last
decade following the deterioration of his health and remained restricted to his

Reservation in promotion: Benefits given under
SC/ST quota cannot be taken back, Centre tells Supreme Court
New Delhi:In its reply to the Supreme Court on
the removal of creamy layer concept from promotion in government jobs, the
Centre on Thursday stated that once backwardness is presumed and benefits are
given, it cannot be taken back. Attorney General K K Venugopal told the bench
headed by CJI Dipak Misra that only the President and the Parliament, not the
judiciary, have the power to exclude a certain class of SC/ST from such
benefits.Venugopal said that though some people from the SC/ST community have
risen from poverty, the stigma of caste and backwardness is still attached to
them. Therefore, those affluent among the community cannot be denied benefits
of quota in promotions in government jobs, PTI quoted him telling the bench
which also comprises Justice Kurian Joseph, Justice R F Nariman, Justice Sanjay
Kishan Kaul and Justice Indu Malhotra.“They have to marry from their own caste.
Even a well-off person of SC/ST community cannot marry from a higher caste. The

India-Israel missile defence system to be

Jerusalem: The multi-purpose Barak 8 missile
defence system, jointly developed by India and Israel, will be procured by the
Israeli Navy to protect its economic zones and strategic facilities from
diversified threats and the sales for it have exceeded$5 billion, a top Israeli
aerospace company has said. The missile system has been jointly developed by
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), India's DRDO, Israel's Administration for Development
of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure, Elta Systems, Rafael and some
other Indian defence companies.Barak-8 is an operational air and missile defense
system used by the Israeli Navy as well as by the Indian Navy and air
forces.Israeli Navy's Sa'ar-6 corvettes will be using the system to protect
Israel's exclusive economic zone and strategic facilities which are faced with
diversified threats in the marine arena, the IAI said in a
statement."Barak-8 system was chosen after it was demonstrated to meet the
operational requirements and future challenges faced by Navy," the company
said."Barak-8 is one of IAI's leading systems and a growth engine for IAI

1st ‘Hindu court’ set up on lines of Sharia
system
Meerut: Members of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu
Mahasabha announced on Wednesday that it has set up the country’s first ‘Hindu
court’, on the lines of Sharia courts. Set up with an aim to make decisions
exclusively on Hindu affairs, and have an equivalent court-like system in place
just like Darul Qaza (Sharia courts) — which resolves issues/disputes according
to Islamic laws —the first Hindu court also got its first judge in a ceremony that
was held at party’s office in Meerut. “We had challenged the establishment of
Sharia courts a few days ago because there should be one Constitution for all.
We had told the government in a letter if our demands are not met, we will set
up a similar court for Hindus. Since no action was taken in our favour, we set
up the first Hindu court here,” said Pandit Ashok Sharma, the national
vice-president of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha. Sharma is also the head of
the five-member sangrakshak mandal of the Hindu court. Members of the outfit
plan to declare the bylaws of their court on October 2 and appoint a total of
five judges in different parts of the country on November 15. Pooja Shakun
Pandey, national secretary of Mahasabha, who has been appointed as the first
judge of the Hindu court, said, “We will deal with matters related to Hindus
only and the issues will range from harassment of Hindu women, Hindu marriages,
disputes of property or money We will have proper jails and our maximum

celebrations across all madrasas in Uttar Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh's Minority

BJP leader tries to enter Delhi’s Jama Masjid to
hoist tricolour on Independence Day
NEW DELHI: In a bizarre drama, senior BJP
leader and former state minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, IP Singh
tried to enter Jama Masjid on Wednesday, minutes after Prime Minister Narendra
Modi hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort, just stone’s throw from the
historic mosque, and tried to unfurl the national flag inside the mosque
premises.Leading a group of BJP members, Singh marched towards Jama Masjid gate
and started raising slogans like “Bharat Mata ki Jai”, “Vande Mataram”, “Sabsey
Payara Desh Humara”.The group entered through Gate No. 1, went upstairs but were
stopped just a few steps before the main entrance leading to the huge courtyard
of the mosque. Local people had also gathered there and stopped them to enter
the mosque and avoided aggressive confrontation with BJP workers to maintain
peace. Hence BJP leader failed to ignite violence.The incident took place
around 10 AM when there was highest security arrangements in the area for the
Independence Day event at the Red Fort. It is said that there was not a single
policeman deployed at the mosque which has a police station near its Gate No. 3
and a police post at Gate No. 1.When asked, BJP leader said, “We don’t need any
permission for unfurling the flag anywhere”.After they failed to enter the Jama

Madrassas in the Muslim areas
Pune: As the Muslims are gearing up to
celebrate Eid-ul-Zuha on August 22, an elaborate security is provided of 59
mosques and 22 madrassas in the Muslim-dominated area in Pune. This came after
the Maharashtra ATS has recovered eight country-made bombs and other explosives
from the house of Sanathan Sanstha worker Vaibhav Raut which were supposed to
be used during the Eid-ul-Zuha to spoil the atmosphere in the

install CCTV cameras, appoint volunteers for managing crowd during Eid, check

Violence in UP's Auraiya after 2 'Sadhus' killed
inside temple
Lucknow:2 ‘sadhus’ were stabbed to death and
another injured inside a temple premises by unidentified persons on Wednesday
triggering mob violence in the Bidhuna area of Auraiya district, police
said.Enraged at the killings, a mob set some shops ablaze and pelted stones
forcing the police to fire in the air, they said. The situation was brought
under control even as there was heavy deployment of security personnel to
maintain law and order, they said.The exact motive behind the crime was not
immediately clear, police said, adding that they suspected the victims’
opposition to cow slaughter to be one reason.Chief minister Yogi Adityanath
directed top officials including the principal secretary (home) and the state
DGP to ensure the case was worked out within 48 hours and strict action was
taken against the culprits.Additional DG (Kanpur range) Avinash Chandra said
the priests were found lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds on
their necks and other body parts inside the Bhayanak Nath temple in Kudarkot

Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari trains suspended after main bridges were swept

shutters of 35 of its 39 dams. In Malappuram, a family of nine was washed away

How a Madrasa in Kozhikode Turned into a
Shelter for 400 Kerala Flood Victims
Kerala has been hit by one of the worst floods
in almost 90 years. The situation is grave, with at least 115 deaths and mass
displacement of people.In these tough times, a madrasa in Kozhikode has decided
to lend their roof to those rendered homeless by the deluge.Located in
Kozhikhode district’s Perambra, Cheruvannur village area, Hujjathul Islam
Madrasa has turned its spacious interiors into a home for the ravaged.According
to locals, the madrasa which generally acts as a school for teaching the Quran,
has suspended classes and started providing shelter. Almost 120 families
including 470 men, women and children are currently lodged in the makeshift relief
camp.Run by a trust called Muslim orphanage Organisation under the guidance of
Ahmad Musliyar, the madrasa is leading a communitarian effort to provide relief
and in about four days has become one of the largest relief camps in Kozhikode.
It is also using an adjoining school building to house evacuees, who have fled
the rising water levels in nearby village or Cheruvannur and others.News18

New Delhi : The state and central rescue teams
rescued all 45 people stranded at the Sultangarh waterfall in Shivpuri district
of Madhya Pradesh early Thursday morning, PTI quoted an official as saying.
Eight people are still missing, the official said. The men, who went there for
a picnic on Wednesday afternoon, were stranded due to a sudden surge of water
level in the stream.“We have rescued 40 people and five people were rescued
earlier by a helicopter. All these 45 people are safe now,” PTI quoted SP
Rajesh Hingankar on rescue operations in Shivpuri.A search operation was on to

92-year-old Habib Khan released for 20 days on
first parole after 23 years in jail
Lucknow: 92-year-old Dr. Habib Ahmed Khan has
reached his home in Rae Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh from the Jaipur Central Jail
in Rajasthan. He was released from the jail for 20 dyas after the Rajasthan
High Court granted his first parole after the elderly person having spent full
23 years behind the bars.Dr. Habib was arrested in 1994 in connection with a
series of train blasts in 1993. He was convicted along with two others in 2004.
The elderly man had tried several times to get a parole but his requests were
rejected by the state and central govts. At last his parole petition was
accepted by the Rajasthan High Court on 2nd August. He reached home earlier
this week. The HC bench of Justices Mohammad Rafiq and Goverdhan Bardhar
ordered his release for 20 days upon his furnishing one personal bond in the
sum of Rs.1,00,000/- with two sureties in the sum of Rs.50,000/- each.The court
has also asked him to report to the concerned police station every third day
and will have to surrender before the jail authorities immediately after expiry

reportedly flew to Tel Aviv on Wednesday to meet Israeli officials in an
attempt to broker a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip,
according to pan-Arab newspaper al-Hayat.Al-Hayat said Kamil and the Israeli
officials discussed the possibility of a prisoner exchange deal between Israel
and Hamas, as well as ongoing talks between Hamas, the de facto ruling party in
Gaza, and Fatah, the leading party in the Palestinian Authority. Since July,
Egypt has been attempting to negotiate a long-term ceasefire between Hamas and
Israel while simultaneously trying to reconcile Fatah and Hamas.Israeli forces

Egyptian Interior Ministry yesterday announced
that 13 people affiliated with the banned Muslim Brotherhood were arrested for
inciting “demonstrations and chaos”.The ministry said in a statement that six
members of the Muslim Brotherhood were arrested inthe governorate of Sohag,
while seven others were arrested while riding a bus in
Beheiragovernorate.According to the statement the detainees planned to hold
“organisational meetings toimplement a scheme to spread rumours to provoke the

Afghanistan: 52 Killed In Taliban Attacks on
Security Forces
In two different Taliban terror attacks on
security forces in Afghanistan, at least 52 security personnel were killed on
Wednesday. Of them 45 were killed in northern Baghlan province in the evening while 7 were killed in Zabul
province in the morning hours. Kabul based TOLO News, quoting security sources,
reports that Taliban insurgents attacked Allahuddin base in Baghlan-e-Markazi
district of the province, adding that “35 army soldiers and 10 local policemen
were killed.” The district police have confirmed the attack but have not given
details about casualties. However,
security officials have not yet commented about the attack.In another Taliban
attack at least seven police personnel were killed and two injured in a clash with Taliban insurgents on Tuesday
on the Kabul-Kandhar highway in Zabul province, local officials told on
Wednesday. A group of armed Taliban attacked police check posts on the highway
near Qalat city. At least 7 Taliban insurgents were also killed in the clash.In

US NSA broke into secure network of Al Jazeera
and others: report
National Security Agency (NSA), a US
intelligence agency tasked with collecting data for foreign and counter
intelligence operations, broke into the encrypted network of the Al Jazeera
Media Network and several others in 2006, according to a report by US media.A
document provided to The Intercept by NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden shows
that the NSA cracked Al Jazeera's Virtual Private Network (VPN), an encrypted
tunnel used to secure internet traffic."Recently, NSA has decrypted a
number of interesting targets ... deemed by product lines to have high potential
as sources of intelligence," the document states, which is then followed
by a list of targets. That list includes Al Jazeera, the Iraqi Ministry of
Defence and Interior, the Iraqi state internet provider and four airlines from
Russia, Paraguay and Iran. Network that was broken into is a so-called VPN
network, a digital tunnel of sorts which all internet traffic gets sent through

A Libyan court has sentenced 45 people to death
by firing squad for killings committed in the capital, Tripoli, during the 2011
uprisingThe statement published by the Ministry of Justice on Wednesday did not

were linked to killings perpetrated by forces loyal to former ruler Muammar
Gaddafi shortly before he was toppled.A further 54 people were sentenced to

Wales, was selected by the legislative council to fill a vacant senate seat.
Faruqi, who will sworn in next week, became the first Muslim to hold any
political office in Australia when she was elected to the state parliament in
2013, the BBC reported.She had migrated from Pakistan to Australia in 1992 with
her young family. Prior to entering politics she held a distinguished career as

Assembly Speaker
Pakistan’s Asad Qaiser is known for the grassroot
activism, has been elected the speaker
of the National Assembly. He began his political journey with the
Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan’s student wing. Qaiser was nominated by the PTI as
speaker of the National Assembly. Unlike other PTI leaders, Qaiser is known for
his cool temperament and advocacy of political harmony.He was born in
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Swabi district. Today, he is the owner of an expansive
network of private schools.Qaiser entered politics as a student by registering
as a member of the the Islami Jamiat Talaba. After finishing his studies, he
joined the Jamiat’s parent party, Jamaat-e-Islami. He worked as an active
member of the party and was soon elected president of the Tanzeem-e-Pasban’s
Mardan division. The Tanzeem-e-Pasban was a youth-based organisation affiliated
with the JI.The party head at the time, Qazi Husain Ahmed, had established the
Tanzeem. It was very popular among young people across the country. Later, the
JI replaced the Tanzeem with the Shabab-e-Milli. Last year, the Shabab-e-Milli
was renamed the JI Youth.Qaiser was one of the founding members of the PTI in
1996. He left the JI to set up the party with Imran Khan. Initially, he worked
as a general member. Soon he was elected president of the party’s Swabi
division. He retained the position for quite some time.In the 2013 election,
Qaiser emerged victorious from Swabi on both the national and provincial seats.
He gave up his National Assembly seat to retain his provincial seat. The PTI
formed the government in alliance with the JI in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. It was
expected that Qaiser would be nominated as the CM, given that he was a founding
member of the party. However, Khattak was fielded for CM while Qaiser was
elected the speaker of the provincial assembly.In the recent election, Qaiser
has once again emerged victorious on Swabi’s NA-18 and PK-44 seats. This time
it was expected that Qaiser would be rewarded with the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa CM’s
post for his loyalty to the party. However, the PTI has nominated Mehmood Khan.
Qaiser was fielded as the party’s candidate for the speaker and was elected on
Wednesday with the most votes.
Facebook 'too slow' in removing anti-Rohingya
hate speech
Facebook has been "too slow" to
address hate speech in Myanmar and is acting to remedy the problem by hiring
more Burmese speakers and investing in technology to identify problematic
content, according to a company statement.In Thursday’s statement, posted
online, Facebook said it was using tools to automatically detect hate speech
and hiring more Burmese-language speakers to review posts, following up on a
