Even as the shocking news of a Muslim teenager being lynched to death on
a Delhi-Mathura passenger train came to light on Friday, details emerging about
the incident show that 15-year-old Junaid Khan was killed in cold blood by a
mob for no apparent reason.While the bereaved family is still reeling under the
shock of what happened on the train, Junaid's brothers have recounted to
several newspapers about how a group of men taunted, slapped and beat them up
because they belong to a certain community.The 2 brothers of Junaid, Shaqir and
Hashim have also sustained injuries from the incident that is prima facie a
hate crime against a certain community. Shaqir, who is admitted in AIIMS in New
Delhi, told Indian Express, "They flung our skull caps, pulled my
brother's beard, slapped us, and taunted us about eating cow meat. Beef is not
even cooked in our village. Once we reached Ballabhgarh, they took out knives.
They were older than us — probably in their 30s — so we couldn't do
anything."It was reported on Friday that the 3 brothers were returning to
their village, Haryana's Ballabhgarh, after shopping for Eid in Delhi. Some
other passengers on the train were suspicious that the tree were carrying beef
in their bags and a scuffle broke out.They were attacked when they
resisted.Shaqir tells Indian Express that it began with slapping and abuses and
then between Ballabhgarh and Asaoti stations they were stabbed. What was a
yearly ritual for the family before eid turned into a nightmare for them.In
another report, Indian Express Ismail, the elder brother of the 3, talks about
Junaid: "He was studying in a madrasa in Nuh district. Junaid was good at
studies. He was a peace-loving boy, and even then, this happened to
him."Both Hashim and Junaid wanted to become maulvis when they grew up. HT

memorising the Quran and their mother even gave them Rs 1,500 for earning the
title. The report says that since it was their first Eid as Hafiz, they went to
Delhi to shop because they wanted to look their best.Jallaluddin, the father of
the boys, says that they were supposed to bring home condiments for Eid, but
what reached home was a dead body."Their mother asked them to fetch the
best sewaiyan and sweets to be served on the festival. He promised to reach
home early, but what reached home was his dead body. How could those men be so
cruel to have pierced my son's body like that," a heartbroken Jallaluddin

New Delhi:A delegation of leaders of the CPI(M) visited the family of
the Haryana teen who was murdered by a lynch mob on board a train on Thursday
this week. The delegation, comprising senior CPM Politburo members Brinda Karat
and Mohammed Salim, and Haryana state secretary Surinder Malik, among others,
alleged that the attack was a result of the "sustained toxic propaganda of
the sangh parivar against minority communities", and was the reason

UP: Cleric shot dead by unidentified persons while praying in the mosque
Varanasi: A 70-year-old maulvi, Mohammad Younus, was shot dead by four
unidentified persons when he intercepted them after they threw a piece of meat
on the premises of the mosque, in Naseerpur village of Mau district, late on
Thursday night. Younus was the maulvi of the mosque where he was killed, police
said.The murder enraged the locals and sparked tension in the village. They
calmed down after police assured them speedy action in the case.Police said the
assailants had come on two motorbikes and threw a piece of meat on the premises
of the mosque. Younus and one Mohammad Jabbar, who had just offered prayers,
were present there and took on the miscreants. The assailants then opened fire
on them. Younus died on the spot but Jabbar escaped unhurt.Hearing the
gunshots, locals rushed to the spot but the miscreants had fled by then. The
locals then informed the police.Circle officer Pankaj Singh, along with a heavy
police force, reached the spot and took body the body for post mortem.Singh
said a case had been registered against unidentified assailants and teams had
been deployed to arrest them. “Heavy police force and PAC personnel were

outside a mosque and opened fire at one person who was coming out after

a large number of policemen have been deployed in the area as a precautionary
measure.The incident occurred last night.70-year-old Yunus, who was coming out
after offering namaz, suffered injuries after the two men opened fire on him,

Bahraich: An UP MLA’s son and a mining contractor have been booked for
allegedly burying alive two children, including a Dalit, in Bhauri village of
Bahraich district after locals resisted sand mining there.BJP MLA Subhash
Tripathi refuted the allegation levelled against his son and termed it as a
"conspiracy", while district administration has constituted a
3-member committee to probe the matter.Bodies of Karan (10) and Nisar (11) were
found on Thursday in a drain in the village, adjacent to a place where mining
was going on, following which irate villagers damaged the vehicles of
contractors involved in the mining work.In his complaint to the police,
Chetram, the father of Karan, a Dalit, said Nishank Tripathi and mining
contractor Manoj Shukla were digging sand from his field instead of the area
alloted to them.According to Chetram, on facing resistance, they buried alive

said, adding an FIR was lodged on Thursday against Nishank and Manoj on the

of Mian Qayoom, a staunch associate of Hurriyat separatist Syed Ali Shah
Geelani, sources said. Abdullah Pandith is an active member of J&K high
court bar association and always on the forefront of any protest concerning

Firdous Ahmad Shah in 2015 when he was allegedly involved in a case of

today. “I have read Quran thoroughly and I can say this with all the confidence
at my command”, he said. He said the tragic death of the officer was yet
another eye-opener for the innocent masses of Kashmir who had been held to
ransom for decades together by self-styled protagonists who claimed to have
waged a war in the name of religion, jihad or Islam.“If this is a war in the
name of religion can there be more irreligious act than this? And, if this is a

New Delhi:In scathing criticism of PM Narendra Modi, international
business magazine Economist claimed the NDA Govt under Modi’s leadership failed
to usher in significant economic reform over the last three years that he has
been in power.In a piece titled “India’s PM is not as much of a reformer as he seems”,
Economist termed the yet to be launched GST ‘unnecessarily complicated and
bureaucratic’ and claimed that the demonetisation move by the Govt was ‘counterproductive, hamstringing
legitimate businesses without doing much harm to illicit ones.’The article
states that despite having a majority that the country has not seen in decades
and an Opposition that is ‘hopeless’, Modi has failed to introduce reforms on a
large scale — attributing it to his lack of reform skills – squandering a
golden opportunity that the current global economy as well the country’s
political situation provide.“His reputation as a friend to business rests on
his vigorous efforts to help firms out of fixes — finding land for a particular
factory, say, or expediting the construction of a power station. But he is not
so good at working systematically to sort out the underlying problems holding
the economy back…. India does not just need power stations and parcels of land
for development. It needs functioning markets for electricity and land—and
capital and labour, for that matter.” The article also questioned the shrinking
space for public debate under the Modi administration, stating that ‘Hindu
nationalist thugs’ intimidate anyone who chides the Govt for arguably straying from India’s secular

the movements that led to RTI and right to work legislations, has accused the
Modi Govt of muzzling dissent, pandering
to multinational companies, sidelining the minorities. Roy said, "There
are two kinds of emergencies. The first one was a constitutional emergency, so
everybody knew there was an emergency and people were jailed. Today, we have
another kind of emergency in which constitutional rights are being suspended.
What are the indications of an emergency? People are afraid to express
themselves, which is the same today. They are scared of doing anything because
they are beaten up... The inequality prevalent today is, in one sense, as bad
as the Emergency." She said, "It’s rising. When you have a blatant
imposition of something, it’s apparent to the people. But when it’s insidious,
it takes longer. I think the poor have understood that this Govt is not theirs. At many places, I now hear
people say that this is contractor raj or company raj, but not our raj. They
also understand that all this mob justice and vigilantism is a failure of
governance. Minorities now have their backs to the wall." She added,
"Popularity can’t be gauged by the number of votes you get, and ethics
can’t be gauged by the growth you bring in.Ethics is a much larger issue, and I
don’t think anybody can stake claim to being another Gandhi, or another Nehru,
or another Maulana Azad.I think one has to view the performance of a PM from a certain perspective, and for that I
would quote Mahatma Gandhi’s famous words about the last man in the country
being happy. A person is a good ruler if the last person in the country — and
that should mean the minorities — is happy. Today, both the minorities and the

Lucknow:The special court in Lucknow hearing the Babri Masjid demolition
case issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Mahant Dharam Das, an accused,
on Friday for not appearing in the proceedings. Das is an invited member of
Ramjanmbhoomi Nyas.“Court issued NBW against Mahant Dharam Das because neither
he nor any lawyer representing him appeared before the court today. No
application was moved in the court for Mahant Dharam Das seeking exemption from
appearance in the court,” said special counsel for CBI, Lalit Kumar
Singh.Meanwhile, prosecution witness and Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha member Sanjay
Raut also did not appear before the court to record his statement.
Babri Masjid Not a Mosque, But an Insult to Islam, claims RSS Leader Indresh
New Delhi: In an interview with News18’s Eram Agha, Muslim Rashtriya
Manch patron Indresh Kumar says Muslims chose to come to RSS because
secularists and socialists failed them. Kumar said, "MRM was formed by the
Muslims, for the Muslims. The organizational committee told me it has presence
in 7 to 8 countries now. MRM has spread to 25 prants (states) and has more than
2,000 branches. The core organisation group has 40 members who sit and discuss
issues and chart out agenda. In such a short time, no other organisation has
progressed so much." He said, "Everybody talked about mainstreaming
of Muslims. But had they tried to bring them in mainstream, there would not
have been Article 370. In Muslim localities, the National Flag should be
unfurled. There should be respect for national symbols like the National Song
and Anthem. If you see, no political party was able to make Muslims do this.
There should be no celebration for Pakistan’s victory during Indo-Pak cricket
match, no cheering for them. These are the symbols of mainstream. But in 70
years, they could not develop this — it was a big challenge ahead of us and
also for those Muslims who were in the mainstream." He added, "With
time, MRM has adopted different movements like cow protection and Uniform Civil
Code. And recently, 7 lakh Muslims, including 40,000 from J&K, submitted
their signatures to President Pranab Mukherjee, seeking revocation of Article
370. No other state in India has dual citizenship and two flags. Why should J&K

replied, "Ram Mandir is an important issue. It is a belief that a mosque
can only be built on non-controversial land, given in donation or waqf or it
can be built on the land bought through proper purchase. But Babri Masjid was
not built on such a non-controversial land. A mosque cannot be named after any
mortal being. It should be named after a prophet or God. Babri Masjid was named
after Babur – he didn’t take care of any such thing.This was not a mosque but insult

Centre yet to push for Zakir Naik’s extradition
New Delhi: More than 6 months after it first filed an FIR against Zakir
Naik who is wanted on terror charges, and a month after it declared it would
ask Interpol to have a red notice issued against him, the Govt has not yet contacted the Saudi authorities
with a request to detain him in Saudi Arabia, where he is believed to be at
present. Asked about Mr. Naik’s presence in Saudi Arabia, the Ambassador of the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dr. Saud Al-Sati
admitted in an interview to The Hindu that the wanted preacher visits Saudi
Arabia from “time to time.”But significantly Ambassador Al-Sati said that “he
was not aware” of any request from the Indian Govt on detaining Mr. Naik, or of withholding a
citizenship or visa grants. Asked if as KSA Ambassador he would have received
intimations of all such requests, Mr. Al-Sati repeated, “Well, I have not,
yet.” Last week, Naik appeared on Arabic channel Al Majd TV from their studios
in Riyadh to deny reports that he had accepted citizenships of any country, and
boasted that he had been offered residence by at least 10 countries.“I have not
made up my mind about whether I should take up another citizenship because of
the difficulties I am facing on the basis of baseless charges [in India],” Naik
told Riyadh-based religious channel Al Majd, owned by a Saudi businessman. “By
God’s grace, I have been offered citizenship by at least 10 Islamic nations.
Maybe in the future I will accept if appropriate, as even according to [Islamic
texts], if people are persecuting me for my thoughts I have to protect myself,”

Srinagar: At least 42 people, including nine policemen, were killed in
Kashmir in June in what could be the bloodiest Ramzan in the Valley in recent
years. The toll includes 27 terrorists and 6 civilian deaths.A senior police
officer said that Friday's lynching has resulted in fear among the lower rungs
of security forces. Although the killing drew criticism from all quarters,
security forces believe it's insufficient to deter people from acting against

West Bengal Govt for the scheme

Allahabad HC quashes UP govt order, reinstates Shia Waqf Board members
Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court on Friday quashed the
UP Govt order removing 6 members of the Shia Waqf
Board and reinstated them to their respective positions. A vacation bench of Justice
Ranjan Roy and Justice SN Agnihotri passed the order on the grounds that the
members were not provided an opportunity to put forward their views, a clause
mandatory in the Waqf Act, 1995.However, the court allowed the state Govt to proceed afresh in accordance with law
against these members.The members -- Akhtar Hasan Rizvi, Syed Wali Haider,
Ashfa Zaidi, Maulana Azim Husain Zaidi, Aalima Zaidi and Najmul Hasan Rizvi --
were removed by the Yogi Govt earlier
this month on charges of gross anomalies in connection with Waqf
properties.These members, who were appointed by the Samajwadi Party Govt , had
filed a writ petition before the court against their removal.Admitting the writ

pictorials while explaining the sources of noise pollution.The book is called
called Integrated Science for 6th standard students of ICSE. It is crucial to
mention that ICSE does not publish its books like CBSE or other state boards;
rather it outsource books from various privately-owned publishers.The picture shows
a man standing between various sources of pollution which are airplane, a fast
moving train, couple of four wheeler vehicles and a mosque which is shown to

Moradabad: A Muslim man and his family allegedly tied his 22-year-old
daughter to a cot, doused her in kerosene and burnt her to death in UP’s
Moradabad on Friday afternoon, police said. Her husband’s relatives told police
the attack occurred because her family was upset over her marriage that went
against her parents’ wishes.Gulfasha Bi was at home with her two-year-old son
and a female relative on Friday when her father and others allegedly roughed
her up and set her on fire, but spared the child, police said. The rest of the
family was away at a funeral. Gulfasha died on the spot. “House of one Gulfasha
Bi 22, was attacked by her father Mashruf Raza Khan and others at around 2 pm
on Friday. They reportedly manhandled her and later set her on fire before
fleeing from the place,” said SP (city) Ashish Srivastav.Gulfasha’s in-laws
told police that she married a man identified as Sajid Ali three years ago
against the will of her parents. Gulfasha’s father and others refused to accept

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has issued a verdict in the case of
rape and abduction with Muslim girls. The court said if a Muslim girl elopes
and gets married, there will not be any issuance of the rape case against the
boy. According to the Shariah law, the marriage of the girl has been recognised
before the age of 18 years, Court said.Gujarat high court recently subdued
abduction charges against Arif Afvan, a youth from Dhoraji, who had eloped with
a 16-year-old girl, 6 years ago. The girl’s father had lodged an FIR against
the boy under Sections 363 and 366 of the IPC for luring the girl out of her
father’s legal custody. The couple had got married in 2011. The Qazi, who
performed the nikah of the couple, had also issued a marriage certificate,
reports TOI.When both of them started living peacefully, then Afwan appealed to
the High Court to remove the case of kidnapping that had taken place. His
lawyer also kept the arguments of the Supreme Court in the High Court. In view
of all the parties, the Gujarat High Court lifted the charge of kidnapping
against Afwan. Also, according to the Shariah, the girls get mature at the age
of 15 and can get married. Similarly, allegations of rape, abduction and
violation of POSCO were lifted against 28-year-old Yunus Sheikh, who had
married the 16-year-old Muslim girl.However, the High Court had made it clear
that the laws prohibiting child marriage cannot be ignored and action should be

to D Hari Kumar Yadav, assistant commissioner of police, SIT, Subrahmanyam
embraced Islam in 2014, and changed his name to Omar.He later moved to Gujarat
where he trained in religious rituals and scriptures. He subsequently visited
Srinagar, Oomrabad, Ambur of Tamil Nadu, and Mumbai.“He has been chatting with
ISIS sympathizers through social media network like Facebook, WhatsApp, and
Telegram. He got in touch with Abu Qahafa Al-Hindi of Mumbai who is ISIS
sympathizer and had been in regular conversation with him. Omar wanted to carry
out subversive activities in the country with the instigation of Abu Qahafa

and 4 persons were arrested for “illegally slaughtering” buffaloes in 3

New Delhi: The argument on the quantum of sentence of punishment in the
Mumbai 1993 serial blasts case in special TADA court has been adjourned till
June 27 on Friday, reported news agency ANI. Earlier on Thursday, special CBI
counsel Deepak Salvi began with submissions on the damage caused by the 12
serial blasts on March 12, 1993.Salvi had earlier said he would seek extreme

Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries that have cut ties to Qatar have
reportedly issued a list of demands to end a major Gulf crisis, insisting that
Qatar shut down the Al Jazeera network, close a Turkish military base and scale
down ties with Iran. In the 13-point list, the countries also demand that Qatar
sever all alleged ties with the Muslim Brotherhood and with other groups,
including Hezbollah, al-Qaeda and ISIL. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE and Bahrain
have now given Qatar 10 days to comply with all of the demands, which also
include paying an unspecified sum in compensation for what they claimed to be
"loss of life and other financial losses caused by Qatar's policies".
The Iran provisions in the document say Qatar must shut down diplomatic posts
in Iran, expel any members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, and only conduct
trade and commerce with Iran that complies with US sanctions.The demands
regarding Al Jazeera state that Qatar must also shut down all affiliates and
other news outlets that Qatar funds, including Arabi21, Rassd, Al Araby Al
Jadeed and Middle East Eye.If Qatar agrees to comply, the list asserts that it
will be audited once a month for the first year, and then once per quarter in
the second year after it takes effect. For the following 10 years, Qatar would

Turkey is set to drop the “controversial” theory of evolution from the
high school curriculum to better reflect local and national values, making it
the second predominantly Muslim country after Saudi Arabia to not teach
students Darwin’s theory.Educators in Turkey argue that Charles Darwin’s theory
is too complex for teenagers to understand and that they should wait until they
enter college to be able to comprehend and discuss secular scientific
discourse. Starting from the 2019 school year, biology textbooks will,

Majority of terrorists who have attacked America are not Muslim, new
study finds
Most of the designated terrorist groups in the US are right-wing
extremists, not Muslim, according to a new report.A joint project by the
Investigative Fund at the Nation Institute, a nonprofit media centre, and news
outlet Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting took a look at the
201 designated terrorism incidents within the US from 2008 to 2016.The results:
“right-wing extremists were behind nearly twice as many incidents” as terror
acts associated with those identified as “Islamist domestic terrorism”.The
report identified 63 incidents involving those “motivated by a theocratic political
ideology espoused by such groups as the Islamic State”. In that time period,
this includes the San Bernardino shootings and Boston Marathon bombings, among

US-led strikes in Syria 'kill 472 civilians in a month'
At least 472 civilians, including 137 children, have been killed during
the past month of US-led coalition air raids in Syria, a monitoring group
said.Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said on Friday the period
between May 23 and June 23 saw the highest civilian death toll in coalition
raids for a single month since they began on Sept.23, 2014.UK-based monitor
said the deaths were mainly in the provinces of Deir Az Zor and Raqqa. Raqqa
City is the self-declared capital of the ISIL group in Syria.SOHR's head, Rami
Abdel Rahman, said the fatalities included 222 civilians in Deir Az Zor, in
eastern Syria, and 250 others in the north-eastern province of Raqqa." This
