‘Don’t cut short process’: SC to NRC
coordinator after retired soldier declared foreigner
New Delhi :A day after a retired soldier from
Assam, who served in Army for 30 years, was declared a foreigner by the state
police, the Supreme Court on Thursday directed the National Register of
Citizens (NRC) coordinator Prateek Hajela to ensure a fair hearing without
cutting short the process and thereby completing the same by end of July, ANI
reported.Media reports suggested that CJI Ranjan Gogoi asked the NRC official
not to rush through the process in an attempt to meet the deadline of July
31.The top court’s observation came after Md Sanaullah, who retired as subedar
with the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) of Indian Army in
August 2017, was detained to be lodged in a detention centre for illegal
foreigners in the state as a Foreigners’ Tribunal (FT) declared him a
foreigner.In his testimony at FT, Sanaullah said that he had served in insurgency-affected
areas of Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast.He was declared a foreigner by FT
No 2 Kamrup (Rural) on May 23 this year. His family members and lawyer maintain
that Sanaullah’s Indian citizenship can be proved easily with the documents of his
ancestors, and of that of his employment with the Indian Army. Sanaullah at
present works as a sub-inspector with Assam Police’s border wing — a special
wing that deals with detection of illegal migrants in the state.Confirming that
Sanaullah has been detained, Additional SP of Kamrup, Sanjib Saikia, said, “FT

Muzaffarnagar riots case: Court acquits 11
accused
Lucknow :A local court in Muzaffarnagar has
acquitted 11 persons accused of setting a house on fire and robbing valuables
during the 2013 riots in Fugana police station area of the district. All the
accused were out on bail.Over 60 people were killed and several were displaced
in the riots that broke out on September 7, 2013 in Muzaffarnagar and later
spread to adjoining districts.Anjum Khan, government counsel, Muzaffarnagar,
said, “Additional District Judge Sanjeev Kumar Tiwari acquitted 11 accused on
Tuesday in a case related to 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots for want of evidence.
Three prime witnesses, including complainant in the case, Suleman, and his two
sons — Islam and Azam — did not support the prosecution theory and were
declared hostile.”According to government counsel, Suleman of Lisad village got
an FIR lodged at Fugana police station on September 16, 2013, saying that on
September 7 after the riots broke out, 12 persons of his village entered his
house forcibly shouting objectionable slogans. They ransacked the house and
escaped with jewellery, cash and household items. Suleman also said that before
leaving, the assailants set his house ablaze, the counsel informed.Fearing for
life, Suleman and his family took refuge elsewhere and later shifted to a
rescue camp in Kairana area of adjoining Shamli district. Anjum added, while
staying in rescue camp, Suleman lodged a complaint against 12 local residents
and several unidentified persons.“Police investigated and filed chargesheet
against 12 accused in the case. One of the named accused, Rishidev, died during

television news debates for a month
Following Congress Party’s dismal performance
in the Lok Sabha elections, party media chief Randeep Surjewala announced Thursday
that no spokesperson will participate in television debates for a month.
Surjewala asked media channels to not place any of their representatives on
their shows.“Congress has decided to not send spokespersons on television
debates for a month. All media channels/editors are requested to not place
Congress representatives on their shows,” a statement issued by Congress Party
said.The decision comes following uncertainty in the party on whether Rahul
Gandhi will continue as president as he remains firm on his decision to step

his nephew Shadaab (27) were gunned down in their office on Gurudwara road.70

the BJP retained its two seats in the Jammu division and one in Ladakh, the NC

a key accused in the 2017 murder case of journalist Gauri Lankesh.Amol Kale,
37, a former convenor of the Sanatan Sanstha-affiliated Hindu Janajagruti
Samiti, was produced in a court in Dharwad in connection with the Kalburgi case
on a body warrant on Tuesday and was remanded in SIT custody for 11 days.Kale
is the first person to be technically placed under arrest by the SIT after the
Supreme Court in February directed that the case be handed over to the SIT. The

Gujarat: Court convicts 2 cattle owners for
leaving bovines on road
Vadodara :In a first such conviction in
Gujarat, a local court sentenced two cattle owners to imprisonment for leaving
their bovines on the public road in Vadodara in 2017, for which the Vadodara
Municipal Corporation had pressed charges against them for negligence.The case
was part of a massive drive undertaken by the VMC in that year to end the
menace of cattle on the streets. The court has also slapped the accused, Alpesh
Rabari and Hitesh Rabari, with a fine of Rs 5000 each.Both convicts have been

Ahmedabad :On May 12, an incident of stone
pelting was reported from Khambhisar village allegedly by local upper caste
people. This was the first incident when a Dalit groom, Jayesh Rathod, was
riding a horse in the village.The horse at the centre of the attack on a Dalit
wedding procession at Khambhisar village of Modasa tehsil in Aravalli district
has succumbed to its injuries it sustained in the stone pelting on the

Over 50 injured in Kulgam clashes, 3 Jaish
militants escape
Srinagar:One person was killed and over 50
were injured in clashes that ensued twin operations launched by the security
forces against hiding militants in south Kashmir's Kulgam and Shopian on May
29. The militants managed to escape after the Kulgam fight, the police said.“3
Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militants managed to escape after an initial round of
fire. We called off the operation in the afternoon. Nobody was retrieved from
the encounter site,” SP, Kulgam, Grinder Pal Singh said.A fierce gunfight
between hiding militants and security forces erupted around 4 a.m. at Tazipora
village of Mahmoodpora area in Kulgam, after a joint team of the Army, the CRPF
and the police successfully zeroed in on a house where militants were hiding.
The house, which was blasted during the operation, turned into a mound.
However, after inspecting the debris no body was found, an official said.The
pre-dawn operation, however, saw hundreds of locals pouring on to the streets
and clashing with the security forces in Kulgam, in an apparent bid to save the
trapped militants.Security forces used tear smoke shells, live bullets and
pellet shotgun to contain the situation. “Around 40 to 50 injured were received
at Public Health Centre Mohammedpora. Most of them were discharged after the
first aid,” said Chief Medical Officer, Kulgam, Dr. Fazil Kochak. 7 severely
injured were shifted to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar. “It was a scene of a war.
Security forces used indiscriminate force against the youth in lanes and
bylanes,” said an injured in Srinagar on the condition of anonymity. Violent
clashes also broke out in Shopian in the afternoon when security forces
surrounded a few villages after a tip off about the presence of militants at
Pinjoora area.Over a dozen protesters were injured, as local youth made
attempts to converged on the encounter site. One civilian, Sajad Ahmad Parray
from Shopian's Badrahama, died due to the bullets injuries.Meanwhile, Hurriyat
chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq warned the situation may “only exacerbate on the
ground if people are targetted with bullets and pellets in the holy month of

bullet-riddled bodies of 3 children were found in a tubewell tank 7 km from

the post-mortem report stated ''evidence of ligature mark over neck.''A Mumbai
court on Wednesday sent all the three accused in the case to two-day police
custody as her family sought directions for the crime to be treated as a
murder.The lawyer representing Payal Tadvi's family told the court that said
that circumstances of the medical post-graduate student's death suggested it
was a murder case. "From the circumstances of her death and bruise mark on
her body, we can say that it must be a case of murder and not of suicide.
Police must investigate this case in the lines of a murder investigation.
Police should be given 14 days time for that," Nitin Satpute, counsel
representing the deceased's family, said."The accused had taken her body
to some other place and later it was brought to hospital so there is a suspicion

Ankara :A former NASA scientist sentenced in
Turkey to over seven years in prison on terrorism charges was suddenly freed
without an explanation, hours after a phone call between Presidents Donald
Trump and Tayyip Erdogan.Serkan Golge,39, is a Turkish-American citizen who was
arrested while on vacation visiting his family in southern Turkey in 2016, in
the aftermath of a coup attempt that failed to oust Erdogan, The New York Times
reported.He was convicted in February 2018 and sentenced to seven and a half
years in prison, which was later reduced to five years by an appeals
court.Golge, his wife Kubra and their two children, all Americans citizens,
were barred from leaving the country.Kubra, told The New York Times on
Wednesday night that he had just walked free from prison and was heading back
with his parents to their home in the city of Hatay.Trump and Erdogan spoke by
telephone earlier on Wednesday and discussed "a number of bilateral
issues", such as trade and tariffs, according to a White House deputy
