Tulsiram Prajapati encounter: Amit Shah, 3 IPS
officers among main conspirators, say probe officer
Mumbai:BJP president Amit Shah and IPS
officers Dinesh M N, Rajkumar Pandiyan and D G Vanzara were the “principal
conspirators” in the alleged fake encounter of Tulsiram Prajapati in Gujarat in
2006, a chief investigating officer of the case told a special court on
Wednesday.Sandeep Tamgadge, who investigated and supervised the case from April
2012, also said that there was a “politician-criminal” nexus, and named Amit
Shah and Rajasthan Home Minister Gulabchand Kataria as the alleged
“politicians” who had “used criminals” —- Sohrabuddin Shaikh, Tulsiram and Azam
Khan —- to fire at the office of Popular Builders in 2004.Shah, Kataria, Dinesh
MN Pandiyan and Vanzara —- who were all named as accused in the case —- were
discharged by the trial court between 2014 and 2017.Tamgadge also claimed that
CDRs of the accused had established their conspiracy to commit the offence.
During cross-examination, the officer agreed to the suggestion that CDRs are
one of the best evidence to determine a person’s location at a particular time.
Asked whether any of CDRs collected during the probe had established
conspiracy, Tamgadge responded in the affirmative. When defence lawyers asked
him to name people whose CDRs established the conspiracy, Tamgadge said, “CDRs
of (Amit) Shah, Dinesh MN, Vanzara, Pandiyan, Vipul Agarwal, Ashish Pandya, NH
Dabhi, GS Rao.”Of them, Pandya, Dabhi and Rao continue to face trial; others
have been discharged for lack of evidence. CBI had included calls between these
men, before and after the alleged offence, in its chargesheet. Trial
court, while discharging the accused, had said there was insufficient evidence
against them.indianexpress

J&K Assembly dissolved as parties with
opposing ideologies can’t form stable government: Governor
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on
Wednesday cited four reasons for dissolving the state Assembly. In a press
statement issued in the evening, the governor said he took the decision “based
on the material available to him from multiple sources”.One of the reasons for
dissolving the Assembly is the “impossibility of forming a stable government by
the coming together of political parties with opposing political ideologies”,
he said. In an unprecedented move, rival regional parties Peoples Democratic
Party and the National Conference formed an alliance along with the Congress.
Both Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti and People’s Conference
leader Sajad Lone, with the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party, have staked
claim to form government.“The coming together of such parties in a grouping is
nothing but an attempt to gain power rather than to form a responsive
government,” the governor’s statement read.
BJP slams PDP-Congress-NC alliance calling it
combination of terror-friendly parties
New Delhi:After PDP, Congress and NC announced
their decision to stake claim to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP
slammed the alliance saying it is a combination of "terror-friendly
parties".Even as People's Conference claimed the support of BJP to form
the government, the saffron party said the best option now was to call for
fresh elections in the state after the Governor dissolved the assembly. So far,
the BJP had maintained that the state was doing fine under Governor's Rule in
these 5 months after BJP pulled out of its alliance with PDP. BJP said on Twitter,
soon after the state governor dissolved the assembly, that the border state
cannot afford horse-trading and instability keeping its security scenario in

P Chidambaram: J&K Governor feels
democracy is “outdated”
Taking umbrage to the sudden dissolution of
the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, former Union Minister and Congress veteran P

dramatic move dissolving the House shortly after PDP, National Conference and
the Congress came together to stake claim to form a government, Chidambaram
took to Twitter to express his outrage."As long as no one staked a claim
to form government, Jammu and Kashmir Governor was happy to keep Assembly under
suspension. The moment someone staked a claim, he dissolved the Assembly.

J&K Assembly dissolved LIVE : Governor
acted on directions of PM, says Manish Tewari
Congress national spokesperson Manish Tewari
condemned the dissolution of the J&K Assembly, saying Governor Satyapal
Malik acted on the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his office.
"J&K governor has played with the Constitution of the country. The act
to dissolve the assembly has been taken on the directions of the prime minister
and PMO," Tewari said at a press conference. Commenting on the sudden
dissolution of J&K assembly, Kerala CN Pinarayi Vijayan described the
action of Governor Satyapal Malik as "undemocratic and anti-people".
The governor had a constitutional obligation to allow an opportunity for the
PDP to prove its claims of a majority, Vijayan said in a Facebook Post. This
whole affair can be only be viewed as a "political game orchestrated by
the central govt using governors as pawns," he alleged.indianexpress

Ram Madhav backtracks on ‘instruction from
Pak’ remark after Twitter duel with Omar Abdullah
New Delhi :After his “instruction from
Pakistan” remark set off a duel with National Conference leader Omar Abdullah
on Twitter, BJP general secretary Ram Madhav on Thursday said, “I take back my
comment.” BJP leader retracted his previous statement hours after Abdullah
dared Madhav to prove his allegation that NC boycotted the local polls in
J&K at Pakistan’s behest. The two leaders clashed on the microblogging site,
a day after Governor Satya Pal Malik issued an order dissolving the state assembly.
The Governor’s move came shortly after the Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP staked claim
to form the government with the backing of rival NC and the Congress. 2-member
People’s Conference also staked the claim, claiming the support of BJP and 18
legislators from other parties. Earlier in the day, Madhav alleged that the PDP
and the NC boycotted the local body polls last month because they had
“instructions from across the border”. “Probably they had fresh instructions
from across the border to come together and form govt. What they did prompted
Guv to look into the whole issue,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.indianexpress

Hashimpura massacre case: 4 of 16 PAC
officials surrender at Delhi court
New Delhi: 4 of 16 PAC personnel, convicted in
the Hashimpura massacre case earlier this month, surrendered at Tis Hazari
court in the city on Thursday. The Delhi High Court had given them time till
today to surrender, failing which it had ordered the Station House Officers to
take them into custody. The four will be sent to Tihar jail. The court has
issued non-bailable warrant against the rest of the convicted jawans. The court,
overturning a trial court verdict, handed the personnel life terms on Nov.1,
after finding that “this case points to the systemic failure that results, not
infrequently, in miscarriage of justice”. The case dates back to 1987, when 38
Muslims were whisked away from their homes in Hashimpura village in UP’s Meerut
by PAC personnel and shot dead. Their bodies were disposed of in a canal. 19
accused in the case — 3 died during the trial — were charged with criminal
conspiracy, kidnapping, murder and causing evidence of the crime to
disappear. In its judgment, the HC said: “Around 42 to 45 men, old and young,
all Muslim, were rounded up by PAC, packed into a truck and taken away. Each of
them was shot by PAC personnel with .303 rifles in cold blood and the bodies
dispatched to a watery grave — some in Gang nahar (Ganga canal) and the
remaining in the Hindon river.”indianexpress
LPG price crosses ₹1,000 for the first time in
70 years; Modi govt silent
The cost of non-subsidised domestic LPG
(14.2-kg cylinder) is hovering around the ₹1,000 mark in most regions of
Karnataka, and in Bidar a cylinder is being sold at ₹1,015.5. In Bengaluru, a
14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder is sold at ₹941 to a non-subsidised customer,
while it is sold at ₹921 at Mangaluru (closer to LPG import facility as well as
bottling plant), ₹962 at Hubballi and ₹956 at Belagavi. Prices were ₹654, ₹630,
₹670 and ₹666 a cylinder at these places, respectively, in April this year,
while it was ₹721 in Bidar.According LPG requirements in Bidar are catered to
by the Belagavi bottling plant. Karnataka has 11 such plants across the State
established by 3 public sector oil marketing companies. It’s not just in
Karnataka, in Nitish Kumar-led Bihar, a domestic non-subsidised cylinder costs
₹1041.5.Criticising the Modi government over the constant rise in price,

Funds meant for Bhopal gas tragedy survivors
misused by BJP minister
Bhopal: The representatives of the four NGOs
working for the welfare of the survivors of the Union Carbide Bhopal gas
tragedy, world’s worst industrial catastrophe, have charged MP Minister Vishwas
Sarang of misusing funds meant for economic and social rehabilitation of the
survivors. Addressing a Press conference here the organisations presented
copies of documents obtained under RTI from Madhya Pradesh Department of Bhopal
Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation which show that close to 60 per cent of the
funds meant for providing employment to survivors and their children have been
diverted to build drains, roads and parks.Likewise, documents show that almost
one third of the funds meant for housing of residents in the vicinity of the
Union Carbide factory are also being diverted for the same purpose.President of
Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Stationery Karmchari Sangh, Ms Rashida Bee said: “In
2010, Rs.104 crores was allocated to provide jobs to one lakh Bhopal survivors
and their children. After failing to provide employment to even one survivor in
the last 8 years, the Minister is now spending more than 60 crores of the money
meant for employment generation on public works that are routinely funded by
tax-payers money.”“All of the 75 crores that the Minister has taken away from
the funds meant for survivors is being spent in his own constituency. Survivors
of the Bhopal disaster are being robbed to pay for the Minister’s vote

Thousands of Palestinians face eviction after
Khan al-Ahmar demolition
Ramallah: Bedouin village of Khan al-Ahmar
appears as little more than a collection of makeshift tin shacks and tents,
nestled on a West Bank hill to the east of Jerusalem. But during the past year
its Palestinian residents have battled the Israeli authorities both through the
courts and on the ground to prevent it from being demolished. At time of
writing, the security cabinet has decided to postpone demolition of the entire
village – and forcible eviction of its some 200 residents - until further
notice, although PM Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed it will go ahead. On Monday,
Netanyahu, who is facing political pressure at home, told a Likud meeting:
“Khan al Ahmar will be evicted very soon, I shall not tell you when. We are
preparing for it.”The village has been under threat since 2009, although the
government only renewed its commitment to demolish it a little more than a year
ago.But the plans for Khan al-Ahmar are not arbitrary: at least 46 other
Palestinian farming and shepherding communities, housing over 8000 people, are
at high-risk of demolition and forcible transfer, according to the UN.The
communities all lie in Area C, a territory that comprises close to 64 percent
of the occupied West Bank under control of the Israeli army, which is
responsible for planning and zoning. middleeasteye
