Pranab Mukherjee to address RSS today, his
daughter sends reminder: by going to Nagpur, you are giving BJP,RSS full handle
to plant false stories
On the day former President Pranab Mukherjee
landed in Nagpur and was received by RSS Sahsarakaryavaha V Bhagaiah, his
daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee took to Twitter to remind him that “by going to
Nagpur, you are giving BJP/RSS full handle to plant false stories…”.Mukherjee
will be chief guest at an RSS event Thursday. Her remarks on Twitter were in
response to reports that she might leave the Congress and contest elections
from West Bengal on a BJP ticket.ABP News had first run the report citing BJP
sources. Sharmistha, who is president of the Delhi Congress women’s wing, took
to Twitter to deny the report. In her first tweet, she said: “In the mountains
enjoying a beautiful sunset and suddenly this news that I’m supposedly joining
BJP hits like a torpedo! Can’t there be some peace and sanity in this world? I
joined politics because I believe in Congress. Would rather leave politics than
leave Congress.”Soon after, came two more tweets addressed to her father, who
has Twitter handle @CitiznMukherjee.In the first, she wrote:“Hope
@CitiznMukherjee realises from today’s incident, how BJP’s dirty tricks
department operates. Even RSS wouldn’t believe that you are going to endorse
its views in your speech. But the speech will be forgotten, visuals will remain
and those will be circulated with fake statements.”Then, she wrote: “By going
to Nagpur, you are giving BJP and RSS full handle to plant false stories,
spread false rumours as today and making it somewhat believable. And this is
just the beginning!”Ex-President is set to address a programme of RSS as a
chief guest today, a decision that has been questioned by some in Congress,
including M Veerappa Moily, who feel the move will give credence to Sangh’s
ideology.Indian Express

New PIL claims Judge Loya died while on
‘official duty’:National Herald Exclusive
Citing an official letter from the Maharashtra
state govt, Nagpur-based lawyer Satish Uike has petitioned the Bombay High
Court for directions to pay appropriate compensation for the death of late CBI
Special Judge BH Loya, who apparently died ‘on duty’, the petition claims. This
is contrary to earlier reports which said that Judge Loya has travelled to
Nagpur to attend a wedding.Late Judge Loya had died in Nagpur on Dec.,2014,
days after reprimanding the counsel of BJP national president Amit Shah, and
after Judge Loya had ordered Shah to be present in court on the next date
during the hearing of his discharge petition in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh alleged
fake encounter case. But while the family members of the deceased as well as the
state govt had maintained that Judge Loya had travelled to Nagpur to attend the
wedding of a colleague’s daughter, Uike has now claimed that a letter booking a
VIP suite in Ravi Bhawan state guest house in Nagpur, had stated that the judge
would be visiting Nagpur on ‘govt duty’.The letter, a copy of which is in
possession of National Herald, is dated Nov.27, 2014 and is signed by a Desk
Officer Shrimati EM Bhargav in Dept.of Law, Govt of Maharashtra. The letter
reads:"Sir, in accordance to the above subject it is informed to you that

Haj pilgrims are not consumers, can’t claim
refund, says apex consumer panel
Haj pilgrims are not consumers, apex consumer
commission has observed while denying relief to a man and his son who claimed a
refund for being provided lower category services by Haj Committee of India in
2008 despite paying for a higher category.National Consumer Disputes Redressal
Commission (NCDRC)said that Haj Committee renders services without any profit
motive.“It would thus be seen that Haj Committee is rendering services without
any profit motive and is collecting only the actual expenses incurred by it on
making arrangements for the Haj pilgrimage,” the commission said.“No fee or
service charges are being collected by Haj Committee of India from the
pilgrims, for rendering its services to them. Therefore, complainants cannot be
said to be the consumer of Haj Committee of India within the meaning of Section
2(1)(d) of Consumer Protection Act,” NCDRC said. The apex consumer commission
was hearing an appeal filed by the Haj Committee of India against Rajasthan
state commission order asking it to compensate Abbas Ali and his son Faiyaz
Hussain, who had applied for the pilgrimage in 2008 and chose Green Category
which was a higher bracket for pilgrims. They claimed that they had deposited Rs
96,940 each for the pilgrimage but when they reached Saudi Arabia, they were
not accommodated in the green category and were kept in lower category –
Azizia’.They approached the district forum seeking refund of Rs 22,362, the
excess amount allegedly charged from them for green category, but their plea
was dismissed. The complainant then moved the state commission which allowed
their appeal and directed refund along with compensation of Rs 10,000 and Rs
5,000 as cost of litigation. Haj committee challenged this order in

Israel agents trained India commandos leading
Sikh temple raid:MEMO report
Commandos who conducted one of India’s most
controversial military raids against a militant Sikh group were trained by
Israeli Mossad agents, an Indian paper has reported.Writing for India Today to
mark the raid on one of the most sacred sites in the Sikh tradition, Prabhash K
Dutta claims that the attack known as “Operation Blue Star” was conducted by
Indian commandos trained by Israeli agents when India refused to have any
diplomatic ties with Israel. Commandos who entered the Golden Temple on 6 June
1984, Dutta says, were part of Special Group of the 56th Commando Company of
the Indian Army. They were the only unit of the Indian forces to have received
specialised training.SpecialGroup or SG commandos, as they were called in those
days, had been trained by an expert team of Mossad, Israeli intelligence outfit.34
years on, the operation which led to clashes between Sikh militants and Indian
commandos, continues to divide the nation.Official reports put the number of
deaths among the Indian army at 83 and the number of civilian deaths at 492,
though independent estimates ran much higher. middleeastmonitor

J&K: Stone pelting cases against minors to
be withdrawn, says Rajnath
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who is on a
2-day visit to J&K , Thursday said cases against minor stone pelters in the
Valley will be withdrawn. While addressing a Sports Conclave at SK Indoor
Stadium in Srinagar, he said, “Sports can bring a change in your lives.
Children can be misguided easily but we know the truth that is why we have
withdrawn all stone-pelting cases against them.”CM Mehbooba Mufti, who was also present on the
occasion, echoed similar sentiments. “Children from J&K should also be given atmosphere and
opportunity to develop like that of the other parts of the country. So that
stone pelting, bombing and gunning stop and these children get a chance to
grow,” she said.Singh, who is in Kashmir to review the suspension of
anti-militancy operations, said the “fate and face of Kashmir will be changed”,
even as he unveiled a list of projects related to creating employment
opportunities and sports infrastructure to attract youths.“We will help the
youth to be recruited in armed forces. The centre will help the youth of
J&K in finding their way. But I appeal to the young generation of the state
to not indulge in any kind of wrongdoings,” he said. Singh’s visit comes amid
an offer for talks with the Hurriyat Conference. indianexpress
In J&K , Rajnath says Centre will change
'face and fate' of Valley, help misguided youth find their way
New militant recruits not driven by ideology,
most attended govt schools: J&K police
New
Delhi:“The new age militant comes from a middle-class family with all the
ingredients of a normal Kashmiri family. He has Hanafiya inclination and not
Salafi (or Wahabi), has been educated in Govt schools and not madrasas. This militant is not
a child from a broken family. His age is between 15 and 25 years, is unmarried,
has no substantial criminal antecedents and has behaviour as normal as a guy
next door. There is hardly any early indication of him being drifted towards
armed militancy.”This is how a 74-page confidential report — based on a
detailed study conducted by the J&K Police’s CID — has profiled local
youths in the Valley who have become militants.Titled “Radicalisation and
Terrorism in J&K — A Study”, CID says that the aim of the study was “to
gauge the existence and extent of radicalisation in the youth of Kashmir”. The
report is based on an elaborate study of “156 local youths of the Valley who
have joined militancy between 2010 and 2015”.The report says that its findings
are based on the CID’s “extensive intelligence database along with detailed
interviews of family members, friends, neighbours, acquaintances” conducted by
a group of field officers. The report has also debunked the traditional
understanding of Kashmir’s militancy and sought a rethink. “One noticeable
outcome of this study is that this wave of fresh recruitments is not based or
driven by ideology as the surge is only seen in South Kashmir and there too in
identifiable areas. If it would have been ideology driven, then pan-Kashmir
footprints would have been seen,’’ says the report. The report says that opting
for guns “is a youth phenomena” and youngsters “join militancy because of
thrill seeker attitude”.indianexpress

like India, it is the responsibility of the majority community to protect the
minorities,’’ said Engineer. He further said, “We wish to remind the Meghalaya Govt
of their moral and constitutional
responsibility. It is their foremost duty to protect the lives and properties

culprits behind the violence in Shillong should be arrested and punished. “We

Sunni Clerics Say Darul Uloom Fatwa Against
Iftar at Shia Houses 'Fake, a Conspiracy'
Lucknow: A top Sunni cleric has dismissed
media reports that claim Darul Uloom Deoband issued a fatwa for Sunni Muslims,
asking them to refrain from having Iftar at Shia Muslim houses.Maulana Khalid
Rasheed Farangi Mahali claimed the reports were part of a ‘mischief’, while
Shia clerics said such fatwas could be part of a conspiracy to hamper
brotherhood between both communities.Maulana Rasheed said, “Deoband never
issues such fatwas. It seems to be a case of mischief to disturb the communal
harmony among Shias and Sunnis. Both communities can have Iftar together, there
is absolutely no doubt about that. Deoband is closed during the holy month of
Ramzan, so this raises more doubts about this fatwa. The matter should be
probed thoroughly. Muslims should not pay any heed to such fatwas.”Noted Shia
Cleric Maulana Yasoob Abbas also spoke to News18 and said, “Such things hamper
brotherhood. It seems this was done as a part of a conspiracy to disturb peace

No love lost between BJP and Shiv Sena as the
latter vows to go solo in 2019 Lok Sabha elections
Hours after Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s
meeting with BJP president Amit Shah, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said that the
party has passed a resolution on contesting all upcoming elections on their
own. BJP President Amit Shah, in Sampark for Samrthan campaign, had met Shiv
Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in a bid to garner support for the party.A few
hours before the meeting, an editorial was published in Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece
‘Saamana’ saying that the ruling party has lost touch with the public and it
should introspect to find reasons for it. The editorial mocked BJP’s ‘Sampark
Abhiyan’ and had said that party would contest 2019 polls solo. It added that
Palghar bypoll results have shown Sena’s strength to the BJP and that was the
reason behind Amit Shah’s outreach mode. The strongly worded editorial had
claimed that BJP was losing grounds and winds of change were blowing in
Rajasthan and MP, adding that change of Govt was imminent in Maharashtra. The
editorial remarked that BJP makes calculations like a businessman about whom to
stay touch with and whom not to.”BJP President’s outreach is seen as an effort
to gain the trust of allies back after major setbacks in recent bypolls.
According to political experts, BJP is trying to move against a possible united

SBI says husband can't use wife's debit card,
court agrees
Bengaluru:A casual act of letting your spouse

could prove costly. This is what a Benglauru woman on maternity leave recently
learnt, albeit the hard way.Banking rules categorically state that an ATM card
is non-transferable and no other person apart from the account holder should
use it. On Nov.14, 2013, Marathahalli resident Vandana gave her debit card with
PIN to her husband, Rajesh Kumar, to withdraw Rs 25,000 from a local SBI ATM.
Rajesh went to the ATM and swiped the card; the machine delivered a slip
showing the money was debited, but the amount was never released. SBI cited the
‘non-transferable’ rule and said the account holder was not the ATM user and
turned down the money claims.TOI

Afghanistan announces week-long ceasefire with
Taliban for Eid
Kabul:Afghanistan announced Thursday a
week-long ceasefire with the Taliban for Eid, the holiday that caps off Ramadan,
though operations against other groups including Islamic State will
continue. The ceasefire will last “from the 27th of Ramadan until the fifth day
of Eid-al-Fitr,” President Ashraf Ghani tweeted from an official account,
indicating it could run from June 12-19.It was not immediately clear if the
Taliban had agreed to the ceasefire, which would be the first for Eid since the
US invasion in 2001.“We are checking with our officials regarding the ceasefire
announcement,” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told AFP. The surprise move
comes days after a gathering of Afghanistan’s top clerics in the capital Kabul
called for a ceasefire and issued a fatwa against suicide bombings and
attacks.“The Govt of Afghanistan not
only supports the unanimous fatwa announcement by the ulemas (scholars), but
also backs the recommended ceasefire,” he said in a statement released by his
office.“(At) the same time, the Afghan Govt directs all the security and defence forces of
the country... to stop all the attacks on the Taliban, but the operation will
continue against Daesh (Islamic State), Al-Qaeda and other international
terrorist networks.”A ceasefire would bring welcome relief to civilians in the
war-torn country, nearly 17 years after the Taliban regime was toppled.AFP

UN slams 'chronic' arbitrary detention in
Egypt
There has recently been a "significant
escalation" in Egypt's crackdown on social dissent, the UN said yesterday,
warning that arbitrary detention in the country had become a "chronic
problem".Since 2013, international human rights groups have criticized
President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi's Govt for cracking down on secular and left-wing
activists, as well as those close to the banned Muslim Brotherhood. But UN rights
office warned yesterday of a "renewed campaign of arrests, interrogations
and detentions of activists, bloggers and journalists in Egypt" in recent
weeks. This "appears to indicate a significant escalation in the crackdown
against the rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly in the
country," spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani told reporters in Geneva. She
said a long line of prominent bloggers, journalists, lawyers and activists were
among those who had been detained in the weeks since Egypt's General Prosecutor
in Feb.ordered prosecutors to monitor social media sites that "spread lies
and fake news."AFP
