Minorities of SC origin must also get quota:
Bishops body
NEW DELHI: Catholic Bishops' Conference of
India has called out the Modi government over its "dichotomous rendering
of social justice" by failing to grant reservation in education and
employment to Christian and Muslims of scheduled caste origins.Expressing
concerns over the hasty passage of the 124th Constitution Amendment Bill, 2019,
that carves out a new 10% quota for economically weaker sections (EWS) among
the upper castes, the office for scheduled caste and backward classes under
CBCI urged PM Narendra Modi to bring a legislation to include Christians and
Muslims of SC origin in the scheduled caste list. The body has also petitioned
PM Modi to increase reservation to SCs and STs, proportionate to their
population. CBCI claimed that economically weaker sections are not affected by
the caste system in India and that the constitutional amendment bill was,
therefore, introduced and passed without a "scientific study" of the
EWS. It also cited successive reports by backward an minority commissions that
acknowledge the social and economic backwardness of Christians of SC origin and
recommend SC status to them. TOI
Congress seeking Pakistan help to oust Modi
government: Nirmala Sitharaman
NEW DELHI: Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman
on Saturday accused Congress of seeking help from Pakistan to remove Narendra
Modi as the PM even as the neighbouring country has been isolated in the world
arena due to the government's diplomatic moves."Congress leaders are
playing dirty politics by seeking help from Pakistan to remove PM Modi's
government," Sitharaman said and asked the BJP workers to spread awareness
about the government's achievements, especially that Modi has provided
"corruption-free" five years, which also saw no major terror attack
during the period. She said the government was able to implement various social
welfare schemes because it was able to maintain peace, which was its top
priority. Exhorting BJP workers to highlight two issues, she said: "First,
that there has been no major terrorist attack after 2014. All attempts to wreak
havoc in the country have been eliminated at the border itself. And second,
that we have had corruption-free five years." timesofindia
Bala saab was never an anti-Muslim man: Sanjay
Raut
Mumbai : Politician and film producer Sanjay
Raut, who is also the writer of the forthcoming film "Thackeray"
based on Bal Thackeray, says that though there is a perception that the late
politician was "anti-Muslim", it is not true. The producer was present
along with the cast and crew of the film for the launch of the song album
here.Asked if Thackeray disliked and maintained a distance from the Muslim
community, Raut told the media: "Bala saab was never an anti-Muslim man.
He was a true patriot. He was one of those lovers of the nation and people's
person that never allowed caste and religion to come in between
"People
asked us why we cast Nawazuddin (Siddiqui) bhai as saab in the film. I would
say that this is the biggest salute from us to the ideology of Bala saab. Also,
note that Nakash Aziz sang the title song of 'Thackeray' because we believe
that saab kept merit beyond religion."Calling Thackeray the "biggest
nationalist", Raut mentioned that "his vision was to bring people
together for the development of the nation".The event was also attended by
Nawazuddin, actress Amrita Rao, Nakash, composers Rohan-Rohan and lyricist
Manoj Yadav, among others. The film is releasing before the election. Asked if
the story will influence people's mind to vote for a particular political
party, Raut said: "Look that film 'The Accidental Prime Minister' is made
based on Sanjaya Baru's book. But our film is not based on any book, it is a
life story. This is not a propaganda film. Like the way we watched films on Gandhi,
Nelson Mandela, we will watch this film on Thackeray saab."Bala saab's son
Uddhav Thackeray and grandson Aaditya Thackeray were also present at the
event."We are releasing it between 1200 and 1300 screens in India. It
includes Marathi and Hindi. Overseas...we are attempting around 400
screens," said Ajit Andhare, chief operating officer of Viacom18

Why no Muslim party in coalition, asks AMUSU
Agra: AMU Students’ Union (AMUSU) threatened
to put together its own “front” to fight the 2019 Lok Sabha elections if the
tie-up of BSP and Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh didn’t include any
Muslim outfit. Vice president of the union, Hamza Sufyan, said that both these
parties had been in power in UP for a significant amount of time but had failed
to fulfill their poll promises. “Most importantly, the 18% reservation promised
to Muslims by the Samajwadi Party in 2012 was never fulfilled,” he said. “Even
though these two parties want Muslims to vote en-masse for them to defeat the
BJP, they are not coming up with any concrete agenda for social welfare of the
community. According to the Sachar Committee report, the status of Muslims in
India is worse than that of Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes,” he added.
Secretary of the union Huzaifa Amir dubbed this “Gathbandhan” (alliance) a
“Thugbandhan”. He said it had been planned with the motive of strengthening the
electoral base of the SP and BSP but Muslims of the state had not been given
their due share in it. “There are several Muslim political outfits like
Rashtriya Ulema Council, Peace Party, MIM and others who have been active at
the ground level for years and have significant electoral bases in many parts
of the state. They have not been included in this coalition, which raises
serious questions on the ‘secular’ nature of these parties,” he added.TOI
Udupi: SIO protests against reservation to
economically backward upper castes
Udupi, Jan 12: Students Islamic Organisation
of India, Udupi district held a protest against Central Government’s decision
to provide 10% reservation to economically backward upper castes.Sadhath
Khalifa, SIO national level advisory council addressing the protest said “With
this constitution amendment, history was created. Discrimination is going on
since ages. In the post colonial era it was a great task to meet these
discriminations. In many countries reservation is not given, there preferential
rights are given to the poor. There are many poverty alleviation programmes
available in the country. These programmes must be strengthened. This programme
doesn’t reach to the poor properly. This would help to uplift the upper class
poor people.”“90% teaching profession is dominated by upper class lecturers
only. Caste system and reservation system must be eliminated. IIT, IIM’s are
becoming agraharas, they are dominated by upper caste people,” he said.Shyam
Raj Bitthi, Dalit leader addressing the protest said, “Earlier upper caste
people called reservation as alms, now they are ready to take alms. SC, ST’s
have suffered a lot and they need reservation for their upliftment. Today also
the situation is same. Modi dosent knows economics. No one who earns Rs 60,000
a month is a poor. He doesn’t know in which direction he is taking the nation.
In Karnataka reservation is only beneficial to Brahmins. If they want
reservation they need to do all the work we do. Around 10% reservation of OBC
is cut down to provide 10% reservations to upper castes,” he said.daijiworld
