Palestine conveys ‘deep regret’, recalls envoy
for attending Hafiz Saeed event after India protests,
New Delhi:Palestine on Saturday decided to
call back its Ambassador to Pakistan, Walid Abu Ali, after he shared the stage
with JuD chief Hafiz Saeed during an event in Rawalpindi. The move comes hours
after India raised concerns with the Middle East country following reports that
Ali attended a rally organised by Difah-e-Pakistan Council, headed by Saeed, on
Friday.“Palestine has decided to recall its Ambassador to Pakistan, Walid Abu Ali,
for sharin the stage with Hafiz Saeed,” ANI quoted Palestinian ambassador to
India Adnan Abu Al Haija as saying.Haija said the Palestine ambassador didn’t
know Saeed. “Our ambassador doesn’t know this person (Saeed). Our ambassador’s
speech was after Saeed and he left soon. For us, even that is not accepted and
a decision has been taken,” Haija clarified.Haija said the Govt fully supported India in its fight against
terrorism. “Because of that my Govt decided to directly call our ambassador
back home and he won’t be made ambassador to Pakistan anymore,” he said.
Calling PM Narendra Modi a great guest
to Palestine, he said, “I hope he will soon visit Palestine and we are waiting
for his visit.”Earlier on Saturday, External Affairs Ministry condemned the act
by Palestinian ambassador in strong words and called it “unacceptable”. “Govt has
strongly conveyed to Palestinian side that Palestinian ambassador’s association
with terrorist Hafiz Saeed, who is proscribed by the UN, at an event in
Rawalpindi on Dec.29 is unacceptable,” ANI quoted ministry said.MEA said Palestinian
side had assured Govt they were taking serious cognisance of their envioy’s
presence at this event. “Palestinian side has conveyed deep regrets over the
incident and assured Govt that they are taking serious cognizance of their
ambassador’s presence at this event,”MEA claimed.“They have said they will deal
with this matter appropriately. It was also conveyed that Palestine highly
values its relationship with India and stands with us in war against terrorism
and will not engage with those who commit acts of terror against India,” ministry

TALAQ BILL
Real motive behind Modi Govt’s desperation to
pass Triple Talaq Bill in Lok Sabha?
The contentious Triple Talaq Bill was passed
in the Lok Sabha on Thursday as the ruling BJP enjoyed majority in the lower House
of the Parliament. Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad termed Bill
historic. He said, “We are creating history… Today is the day of creating
history. When the entire nation is watching us, our women (Muslim), sisters and
daughters are watching us and wondering if they will get justice or not, then
when the bill is passed you all will one day say that you too had voted for
this Bill…I want to request the House that complaints and moaning will
continue. Let’s be united once. Let’s speak in one voice for the reform, our
daughters, daughters of the Muslim community, equality and gender justice.”Prasad’s
passionate speech may have given the impression that the Centre’s Modi Govt indeed
had thrown its weight behind the Triple Talaq Bill out of their concern for the
victims of instant divorce within the Muslim community. However, not many
noticed that the Union Law Minister had given away his Govt’s real intention
within his speech, when he briefly talked about the allegations of forcing
Uniform Civil Code on Muslims in India. He said, “And they mentioned Common
Civil Code. There’s no mention of Common Civil Code here as I made it clear
right in the beginning. I made it abundantly clear that this Bill was only
about Triple Talaq. And why Triple Talaq? That’s because the Supreme Court in
its judgement clearly said that ‘we are only discussing talaq-e-biddat or
Triple Talaq. We will consider other issues such as polygamy, Talaq-e-Halala
separately later.”This is where Prasad seems to have given away his Govt’s real
motive on Triple Talaq, because what the minister desperately sought to
attribute to the Supreme Court is, in fact, the real intention of his Govt. jantakareporter
AIMPLB to approach SC after RS passes triple
talaq becomes law
Lucknow: Expressing its serious reservations
over the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill passed by the Lok
Sabha the All India Muslim personal law board has said that the board may
approach the Supreme Court against the triple talaq bill once it is passed by
the Rajya Sabha and the bill becomes the law.“AIMPLB will take steps through
democratic means to amend, improve or scrap. The board may approach the Supreme
Court against the triple talaq bill once it is passed by the Rajya Sabha’’,
said Zafaryab Jilani, the secretary of the board. “An option is always open to
challenge the law passed by the Parliament, in the SC which is against the
Supreme Court’s judgment and the Indian Constitution. Convener of our legal
committee has also suggested that it can be challenged in the court. However,
we will decide our future course of action once the Bill is passed and law is
enacted,” Jilani said. “We will take whatever steps required through democratic
means for scrapping of the proposed law. Bill was introduced with undue haste
in parliament without consulting the stake holders. The board should have been
taken into confidence by the Govt before
rushing to Lok Sabha with the bill “AIMPLB spokesperson Maulana
Khalil-ur-Rehman Sajjad Nomani said here on Friday.“Law Minister Ravi Shankar
Prasad while tabling the bill in parliament also quoted the board and a women
MP of the ruling party tried to answer the queries raised by the Board in a
letter to the PM proving that the Govt recognises the board. So the board should have
been taken into confidence,” Nomani said.Maulana said AIMPLB wanted triple
talaq bill to not be in conflict with either the Constitution, Supreme Court
order or the Muslim Personal Law Board.“We had demanded that Bill should have
been prepared only after consultation of representatives of Muslim women
organisations, Muslim Personal Board, but it doesn’t mean that we were against
the Bill. We only wanted that Bill should not be in conflict with Constitution
of India, SC Judgment or Muslim Personal Law Board,” he said. Dailypioneer
Triple Talaq bill aims at destroying Muslim
society: Maulana Khaleelur Rahman
Triple Talaq Bill is against Constitution and
rights of women: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind
New Dlhi:A prominent body of Indian Muslims,
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has termed, the bill introduced by the Central Govt and passed by the Lok Sabha regarding triple
talaq is not only as against Article 25 of the Constitution of India which
guarantees religious freedom but also goes against the recent judgement of the
Supreme Court on the issue. The Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind,
Muhammad Salim Engineer in a statement said, “Not only is this Bill against
Article 25 of the Constitution of India which guarantees religious freedom but
also goes against the recent judgement of the Supreme Court on the issue of
triple talaq. It is being told that the Bill has been introduced to protect the
rights of divorced women, but when the triple talaq itself shall not be legal
and a valid form of divorce and (pronouncing triple talaq) will not result in a
divorce, then how can a punishment be awarded for the same? Then in article 5
of the Bill it is mentioned that the husband shall take the responsibility of
maintaining the divorced wife and his children. The question that arises is
that when the husband who issues triple talaq will be behind bars, how would he
be able to take care of his divorced wife and children? Then after spending
three years in jail, how could it be expected that the husband would be able to
resume a happy married life with his wife?”Engineer Salim said,“Govt declared
that it is introducing a Bill regarding the Shariah laws. But, strangely, Govt did
not deem it necessary to consult the Islamic scholars, Shariah experts, Muslim
community and Muslim religious organizations and representatives of Muslim
women organizations. After the Supreme Court judgment regarding triple talaq
there was absolutely no possibility nor need for such a Bill. According to the
legal experts this Bill goes against Articles 14,15 and 25 of the Constitution.” theindianawaaz
Triple talaq bill also against welfare of
muslim women: Darul Uloom VC
New Delhi:Maulana Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani, VC,
(mohtamin) of Darul Uloom Deoband strongly reacted to the bill criminalising
the triple talaq, stating that the law which says about justice and respect and
for women is against the welfare of Muslim women.Nomani said, “It is not a
matter of single or triple talaq. If the bill is passed then in the eyes of the
law, the divorce stands void. But the society will see them as divorced. Under
the law, the man will be sent to jail. If that happens, who will take care of
the woman and children — the court or the Govt ? While the man will suffer in
jail, the fate of the woman and their children will hang in the balance,” he
said.ET
Triple talaq: AP Muslim leaders decry passage
of Bill
Vijayawada: All India Muslim Personal Law
Board (AMPLB) member Syeda Aaisha Tayyaba and members of various Muslim
organisations opposed the triple talaq Bill passed in the Lok Sabha, stating
that it would cause injustice to members of the community.Addressing the media
here, Ms. Tayyaba said the decision taken by the Centre to pass the Bill was
one-sided as many Muslims, including women, were opposing it as the Bill
criminalised triple talaq.Muslim Hakkula Porata Samithi State general secretary
Farooq Shubli said the Bill would not solve the problem. Instead, it would
separate the couples and affect the children.Jamaat-E-Islam leader Akbar Basha
said the telephonic survey conducted on triple talaq was a farce. Muslims will

Cong against maintenance, jail clauses of
triple talaq bill
Bengaluru:Congress party on Saturday objected
to the jail and maintenance clauses of the triple talaq bill. Leader of
Opposition in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said, “There are lots of
shortcomings in the triple talaq bill. Some sections will promote hatred and
jealousy among the families instead of resolving disputes.” He also objected to
the provision of jail term to Muslim men who will violate the triple talaq law
“If a man is sent to jail then after release he will have grudges towards his
wife and probably won’t look after her properly. If the man is sent to jail,
then it would destroy the family economically,”Kharge said. He also objected to
the maintenance clause of the bill and said, “Since 80% of Muslims belong to
the lower middle class and poor strata of the society, it would be difficult
for a man to pay maintenance to his wife when he has to also take care of his
old parents.” ANI

Owaisi targets Modi: Bring law to punish those
who abandon their wives
New Delhi:Those who marry and abandon their
wives should be punished and the Govt should bring a law to this effect, AIMIM chief
Asaduddin Owaisi said in Parliament.“If at all you want to bring a law, then
make a law that if a person marries and abandons his wife, he should be
punished,”He said, without naming anyone, while participating in a discussion
on the bill in Lok Sabha that criminalises triple talaq. He demanded that Govt should
create “a corpus of Rs 1,000 crore” to take care of the women whose husbands
would be jailed under this law and the wife would have no means of sustenance.IANS
Owaisi compares Lok Sabha debate on triple
talaq to day of Babri Masjid demolition
MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who staunchly opposed Muslim
Women Bill, has equated the debate in Lok Sabha with the demolition of the
Babri Masjid. In an interview, MIM
president said, "The scene in the Lok Sabha was like Dec. 6 (1992). We can
neither forget Dec. 6 nor the scene in Lok Sabha on Thursday."When asked
that despite his staunch opposition, the Bill was passed, Owaisi said that if a
Muslim man divorces his wife by saying the word 'talaq' thrice, it is a crime
and should be stopped, but "there is no empirical data to support the
argument that it is such a big social evil that harms society".The
three-time Lok Sabha MP from Hyderabad questioned the requirement for a
three-year prison term in the Bill. "When the Supreme Court (SC) has ruled
that merely uttering triple talaq cannot dissolve marriage, what is the
requirement for a three years' jail? We have several laws like section 498A of IPC,
Sections 20 and 22 of the Domestic Violence Act 2005 and the Muslim Women
(Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act 1986 to protect women."Owaisi also
questioned the logic for jail term in the Bill. "How will a man who has
been jailed for uttering 'triple talaq'' provide allowance/compensation to his
wife from prison?" Owaisi said that he had suggested amendments to
desertion and abandonment provisions, but they were not included. "BJP avoids
desertion and abandonment amendments due to vested interests while the Congress
wants to prove that it is more pro-Hindu than the BJP," he
alleged.IndiaToday
Communal agenda behind ‘haste’ showed for
Triple Talaq Bill:CPM leader Kodiyeri
Kalpetta: CPM State Secretary Kodiyeri
Balakrishnan has alleged that the communal agenda of the RSS is behind the
‘haste’ shown by Union Govt in
introducing the triple talaq bill in the Lok Sabha. Kodiyeri said the Supreme
Court had ruled that triple talaq is ‘illegal’. The CPM is against the
practice, he added. When the progressive section of the Muslim community took a
stand against the triple talq earlier, the CPM had stood with them, Kodiyeri
said.He said he doubted the intentions of the BJP-led central Govt in bringing the Bill in a haste. Kodiyeri said
since the Supreme Court had declared triple talaq ‘illegal’, there is no need
for such legislation. RSS’ agenda is to create communal polarisation and to
bring young Muslim men behind bars through the Bill. mathrubhumi
2 UP colleges survey: 43% people in 3 UP

Devi PG College, Modinagar, on 1,500 people."Out of the total number of
people who were questioned, 646 believed that PM Narendra Modi interfered in the Muslim
religion by touching the triple talaq issue," said the research compiled
by associate professor Dr Shivali Agarwal, who heads the political science
department of Ismail National Women's (PG) College.Meerut Qazi Zainus Sajidin
said, "The tabling of this bill is equivalent to interfering in Shariat.
This bill has been tabled in haste because it is against the Islamic Law.
According to Shariat, if a man says talaq thrice, it will be considered as
divorce, but according to the proposed law, it will not be talaq. So, the woman
will actually be living illegitimately with her husband if the law is enacted.
It is necessary that the Govt reconsiders it."The survey also found
that 70.2% of the people believed that the practice of triple talaq should be
abolished. 24.4% people said that the practice should not be brought to an end
and the remaining 5.4% said they could not say anything on the matter. The
research included 67.53% Hindus, 30.87% Muslims and 1.6% from other

Muslim intellectuals oppose triple talaq bill
Bhubaneswar: Several Muslim intellectuals from
Odisha, some of them clerics, joined the opposition Congress and the ruling BJD
in opposing the triple talaq bill passed in the Lok Sabha. They condemned the
'hasty' tabling and passing of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on
Marriage) Bill, 2017, on the instant talaq issue.Ayub Khan, senior BJD leader
and lone legislator from the Muslim community in the asembly, said the BJP Govt
at the Centre has passed the bill
forcibly. "The bill is against the Islamic religious law - Shariat- and
treats it as criminal instead of accepting that it is a Muslim's civil
right," said Khan.Intellectuals too stressed on consensus. "A common
view should be fostered before this legislation instead of rushing it,"
said former vice-chancellor of Berhampur University, M Q Khan."This
consensus should be built not only by taking the views of a cross-section of
the Muslim community, but also of all political parties," Khan said.TOI

Hindu outfit releases ‘communal violence
calendar’
Kolkata: Hindu Samhati released a calendar
chronicling incidents of “ethno-religious cleansing” that have allegedly taken
place in the last 70 years.Founder and adviser of Hindu Samhati, Tapan Ghosh
said there were 57 instances of major communal violence in West Bengal from
February 2001 to December 2016. A larger number of such incidents have taken
place after 2011, when Trinamool Congress came to power, he claimed.“In 34
years of Left Front rule, a large amount of communal violence took place in
West Bengal, but most of them were not reported. One of the biggest incidents
of communal violence took place in Deganga area of North 24 Parganas in 2010,
when the Left Front was in power. However, a large number of such incidents
also took place after the Trinamool Congress came to power. We want state Govt to arrest the culprits irrespective of their
caste, creed and religion. They must be pushed as per law,” Ghosh said. According
to the list published by the Hindu Samhati, most of 57 instances of communal
violence had targeted Hindus. indianexpress

‘RSS, VHP are anti-Hindu’
magaluru:RSS, VHP and similar organisations
with communal ideology are the real anti-Hindus, Dinesh Amin Mattu, Media
Adviser to CM Siddaramaiah, said here on
Friday. Speaking at the Komu Souharda Vedike’s 15th anniversary programme, he
said communalists never speak about the loopholes in Hindu religion. “Hinduism
has survived for long because of many saints, poets, social reformers who
constantly carried out reforms, addressing the caste-based discrimination. The
communal groups never talk of this discrimination. They are the true
anti-Hindus.”Amin Mattu said communalism could be countered effectively by
raising caste issues. “The recent elections in Gujarat has proved this. Alpesh
Kumar, Jignesh Mevani and Hardik Patel raised the issues concerned to the caste
groups. Those who ruled the State for over 22 years could not answer them
effectively.”He opined that the communal ideology could be defeated only
through a political party with a strong ideology. “There is a lack of clarity
within Congress. When Rahul Gandhi visited temples during elections in Gujarat,
many in the party found it difficult to defend. There is nothing wrong in being
a religious person. We need to know the difference between a religious person
and a communal person. While a religious person speaks about his religion,
communal persons speak against other religions.” thehindu
Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee Demands
Fresh, Fair Investigation in Ayesha Rape, Murder Case:TCN

Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee has stated in a press statement that it
has been ten years since the brutal rape and murder of 19-year-old Ayesha Meera
a native of Tenali and a student of Nimra Medical college of Vijayawada, but
till now justice has eluded Ayesha Meera and her family.“With the unholy
collusion and nexus of the politicians and policemen the whole investigation
process has been sabotaged. And to save the real perpetrators of crime the
supposed to be an independent and impartial investigation was influenced and
given a wrong direction, thus making a mockery of justice,” said the
statement.19-year-old Ayesha was a first year B.Pharma student at Nimra Medical
college who just returned back to her college hostel after celebrating Eid with
her family. Ayesha was sadistically raped and dreadfully murdered on the night
of December 27, 2007 and her blood soaked naked dead body was thrown in the
bathroom of the hostel. The incident sparked a rage of anger and sorrow among
the general public and there was a widespread belief about the involvement of
the hostel’s warden, grandson of a politician and the local Vijayawada mafia in
the incident as there was a Christmas party underway at the ground floor of the
hostel in the night when this incident has occurred.Since the very beginning of
the investigation Police did not act in a fair manner and it showed the arrest
of some other person and announced that particular person to be the assailant
of Ayesha Meera. “As a result of this pernicious investigation in the end a
handicapped dalit youth Satyam Babu was made a scape goat,” alleges CLMC’s. twocircles

participate in the right-wing anti-corruption protests which took place in
Jerusalem last weekend.Haaretz quoted commentator on religious parties, Israel

Jerusalem vote

Turkey’s president and Pope Francis both hailed last week’s UN resolution
rejecting the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, presidential

significance of mutual efforts to protect the status quo of Jerusalem — sacred
to Islam, Christianity and Judaism — said the sources, who asked not to be
named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.Earlier this week, Pope

conflict and called for Jerusalem’s status quo to be respected to prevent

PA has to announce ‘death’ of Oslo Accords,
insists Hamas official
A senior Hamas official in Gaza has insisted
that the Palestinian Authority should announce the “death” of the Oslo Accords
signed with Israel in 1993, Shehab.ps reported on Friday. Mahmoud Al-Zahar made
his comments on Turkey’s Channel 9 television.“Oslo did not bring our nation
anything except destruction,” Al-Zahar explained, “and the last chapter of this
was Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.” He stressed
that the Palestinians have to stick to the option of all kinds of resistance,
including “armed resistance”. The PA, he added, should also declare the whole
of Palestine to be occupied territory. However, noted Al-Zahar, the PA does not
want to abandon Oslo. He pointed out that the late PA President Yasser Arafat
was killed because he wanted to use the “armed resistance” to push Israel to
“turn to him” and “to achieve political gains through negotiations”.When asked
about internal reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah, Al-Zahar said that his
movement had “conceded everything” to guarantee its success. Nevertheless, he
insisted that Hamas would never accept the ongoing procrastination should PA
continue to refuse to take full responsibility for the Gaza Strip.

its own citizens since July 2012. The organisation revealed the details in its
report “The Ruthless Bombing”.The use of barrel bombs, said the Observatory, is
a manifestation of “one of the most appalling ways in which the international

Tehran police won't arrest women for violating
'Islamic' dress code
Women in Iran's capital, Tehran, will
apparently no longer be arrested for not adhering to the "Islamic"
dress code in public. The Tehran police force has laid out a new law. Women who
step out in public without wearing the conservative Islamic dress-code--which
bans makeup, nail polish and loose headscarves--will not be arrested for
dress-code violation. While violators will not be arrested, they will have to
take a police-instructed class on "Islamic values", so that they can
actually adhere to the dress code without protesting ever again. What's more,
if you flout the dress code despite taking the classes, repeatedly, legal
action will be taken."Based on a society-oriented, educational approach,
the police will not arrest those who don't respect Islamic values. It will
instead educate them," Brigadier General Hossein Rahimi was quoted as
saying by Iran's official news agency, the Islamic Republic New Agency.IndiaToday
