Chinese media at it again, says India will suffer worse losses than 1962
New Delhi:Accusing India of behaving “shamelessly before the
international community”, the Chinese media has warned that India will suffer
“greater losses than in 1962 if it incites military conflicts”. “If New Delhi
believes that its military might can be used as leverage in the Donglang area,
and it's ready for a 2-and-a-half front war, we have to tell India that the
Chinese look down on their military power. Jaitley is right that the India of
2017 is different from that of 1962 - India will suffer greater losses than in
1962 if it incites military conflicts,” an editorial in China’s state-run

BJP, RSS jointly start cooperative society to sell beef in Kerala:
Malayalam daily
In a major embarrassment to the BJP, which has been showcasing its cow
protection agenda in several parts of the country, its unit in Thrissur
district of Kerala, in association with the RSS, has started a cooperative
society to sell beef among other varieties of meat. The society, according to a
report published by Malayalam daily Deshabhimani on Tuesday, has been framed
under the stewardship of BJP district head A Nagesh and secretary TS Ullas
Babu.“Cattle Meat Manufacturing Cooperative Society has A Nagesh as the chief
promoter, besides several other prominent local BJP and RSS leaders as members
of the executive body which shall monitor its daily functioning,” the report
stated.Ironically, Narendra Modi had whipped up cow-slaughter hysteria by
denouncing what he called “pink revolution” in his speeches during 2014
parliamentary elections campaign.Even though India continues to be one of the
biggest exporters of beef, despite BJP coming into power, vigilantism in the
name of cow protection has triggered a cycle of mob lynchings of Dalits and
Muslims in several BJP-ruled states.BJP, however, has always maintained double
standards when it comes to states where beef is widely consumed, especially in
Christian-majority northeastern states. Incidentally, states like West Bengal,
Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and to some extent Karnataka, have already registered their
protest against ‘beef ban.’ Opening of cooperative societies for selling beef
in Kerala is seen as a crafty move to gain political ground in beef-consuming
states.Meanwhile, the society, the Deshabhimani report said, has already set up
an office near Thiruvampady temple in the city centre to procure, process and
sell meat, that includes beef, and fish.As per the bylaws stipulated by the
cooperative society, it will rear cattle for meat, regulate its sale according
to wholesale and retail schemes and establish a supermarket to sell different
types of meat products, the report read, adding that society was also planning
to start a cold storage facility to store meat. “Society was also aiming to
start a chain of restaurants in the district, besides setting up a mobile store
for selling meat and poultry products,” the report further stated, adding, “society
aims at doubling their sales during festival season.”NationalHeraldIndia

to her conversation with Tripathi over the incident, said she felt so offended
that "I once even thought of leaving (quitting as CM)". A Raj Bhavan
statement quoted Tripathi as having said nothing happened during the talks over
which Mamata should feel "insulted, threatened or humiliated"."Talks
between the Hon'ble CM and the Hon'ble governor were confidential in nature and
none is expected to disclose it," a statement issued by Raj Bhavan in Kolkata
said.It said that the governor asked the CM to ensure peace and law and order by all
means. Condemning the riots, Mamata said, "This is a serious issue, let me
handle it seriously." She said after the arrest of one person, there
should not have been any further trouble. "We were awake last night (to
control it)."Mamata said, "The ruling party at the Centre has an
agenda. They have formed a 'Gau Raksha group' to kill people. A 'hate group'
was formed to foment riots. Riots are taking place in the name of Hindu
Samhati."PTI

Muslim Man 'Scared For His Life' Wore A Burqa On A Train In UP To Escape
Lynching
Just days after 15-year-old Junaid Khan was lynched on a Mathura-bound
train, leading to street protests against mob violence across India, it seems
fear still stalked the Muslim community. On Sunday, a 42-year-old man was
caught at the Aligarh railway station wearing a burqa, reported Times of India.
When questioned by the police, the man — an assistant engineer in Aligarh's
Kasimpur power station — told them that he wanted to conceal his identity. He
was scared of being lynched for being a Muslim.Najmul Hassan told the cops that
he was threatened a week back by a fellow traveller when he was going to Delhi
to meet his ailing cousin. "I had read about Junaid's killing in a train
in Ballabhgarh a few days ago. I was scared for my life after the threat, but couldn't
avoid travelling. So I thought of wearing a burqa," he said. The
investigating officer told ToI that they found nothing suspicious in Hassan's
statement. All the investigating agencies verified Hasan's statement and said
that he had worn the burqa out of fear.huffingtonpost
Bengaluru hotel denies room to couple, says Hindu-Muslim can't marry: India
Today
A hotel in Bengaluru turned away a Hindu-Muslim couple and refused to
give them a room as the husband was a Muslim and his wife a Hindu.Shafeeq
Subaida Hakkim and Divya DV, a couple from Kerala, were in Bengaluru for some
official work. They needed an accommodation to stay but refused a room at Olive
Residency on Annipuram Main Road in Sudhama Nagar. The receptionist at the
hotel said that a Hindu and Muslim cannot live together. The receptionist went
on to make his point saying that he has instructions not to give rooms to
Hindu-Muslim couples as there may be problems. Shafeeq said that they were
shocked by the behaviour as they have never faced such a situation
before."I wanted the room for just 2 hours since my wife Divya had come
here for an interview with a prestigious law college. Divya is an LLM graduate
and was looking to do her PhD here," Shafeeq said.He said the hotel
explicitly told them it's their policy not to allow inter-religion married
couples. When Divya asked him to show the hotel policy in print, the management
flatly refused. Shafeeq and his wife then got into another hotel and she
managed to attend her interview. He now plans to file a complaint with the

In second acquittal of Bhagalpur riots accused, Patna High Court
questions police effort
Patna:As Kameshwar Prasad Yadav, 58, the best known face connected to
the 1989 Bhagalpur communal riots cases, stepped out of Bhagalpur Camp jail
Monday, he shook hands with constables at the gates while his supporters
chanted zindabad. Wearing a light grey sherwani, garlands around his neck,
Yadav waved to his supporters and talked of going back to “social service” and
possibly joining politics, with the BJP as first preference.Patna High Court
acquitted Yadav last week of the murder of a Muslim teen, questioning the
police’s commitment in their investigation. Yadav had been acquitted by a
Bhagalpur trial court earlier, too, the cases against him closed in 1991,
before the Bihar govt reopened 27 riots cases in 2006. Yadav was lodged in jail
since 2007, and convicted in 2009 in the case in which the high court acquitted
him last week. About 30 people have been convicted and over 40 acquitted in
Bhagalpur riots cases so far.“My acquittal is a boon from God. I always had
faith in the judiciary,” a smiling Yadav told journalists, adding he had missed
his family and society. “Now that I am back, I will devote my time to the
service of people and will join politics if I feel I should.”Yadav had
contested the 1990 assembly election from Nathnagar as an independent, losing
to the RJD. Asked which party he would prefer now, he said, “Maybe BJP.” Yadav,
incidentally, had been felicitated at a govt function in Hajipur for “working
for communal harmony” during the RJD-Congress govt. BJP had then targeted the
RJD for “trying to woo” Yadav into politics. Later, however, Yadav fell out of
favour with the RJD.Yadav faced three riots cases, and was first sentenced to
life in 2007 for the murder of a Muslim shopkeeper, Munna. With the latest
ruling on the murder of Mohammed Qayumuddin, 15, Yadav has now been acquitted
in all 3 cases. Indianexpress

Saudi has 'clear link' to UK extremism, claims report: BBC
Saudi Arabia is the chief foreign promoter of Islamist extremism in the
UK, a new report has claimed. Henry Jackson Society said there was a
"clear and growing link" between Islamist organisations in receipt of
overseas funds, hate preachers and Jihadist groups promoting violence. The
foreign affairs think tank called for a public inquiry into the role of Saudi
Arabia and other Gulf nations. UK's Saudi embassy says the claims are
"categorically false".Meanwhile, ministers are under pressure to
publish their own report on UK-based Islamist groups.Home Office report into
the existence and influence of Jihadist organisations, commissioned by ex-PM David Cameron in 2015, has reportedly yet to
be completed amid questions as to whether it will ever be published.Critics
have suggested it could make uncomfortable reading for the Govt , which has
close and longstanding diplomatic, security and economic links with the Gulf,
particularly Saudi Arabia.BBC correspondent Frank Gardner said he understood
the report was "largely finished and sitting on Theresa May's desk",
but there was probably a reluctance to publish it because of
"embarrassing" content. Wednesday's report by the right-of-centre
think tank says a number of Gulf nations, as well as Iran, are providing financial
support to mosques and Islamic educational institutions which have played host
to extremist preachers and been linked to the spread of extremist material. It
alleges individuals and foundations have been heavily involved in exporting
what it calls "an illiberal, bigoted Wahhabi ideology", quoting a
number of examples. In a minority of cases, the report alleges institutions in
the UK that receive Saudi funding are run directly from Saudi Arabia, although
in most instances the money appears to "simply buy foreign donors'
influence".In a statement, the Saudi embassy in London said any
accusations that the kingdom had radicalised "a small number of
individuals are baseless and lack credible evidence".Home Office said it
was determined to cut off the funding of extremism but it declined to comment
on the think tank's report.BBC's Frank Gardner said the report's release comes
at a sensitive time with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt all accusing
Qatar of supporting extremism - a charge the report says is hypocritical.
Endorsing the report, Labour MP Dan Jarvis said it shed light on "very
worrying" links between Saudi Arabia and the funding of extremism and he
called for the govt to release its report on foreign funding.BBC
